Time for a new federal law

Congress needs to pass the following law ASAP:

1) Hollywood film studios are hereby PROHIBITED from remaking a movie that they previously remade less than a decade ago.

2) Changing the title of the movie to something else, or claiming it is a "Reboot" instead of a "remake" to get around this ban shall NOT be allowed

3) Waivers may be granted on an individual basis only, if the filmmaker can demonstrate beyond a reasonable doubt that the previous remake was a terrible adaptation and/or completely sucked.

4) Congress shall have the power to enforce this law through appropriate legislation.

Interesting ideas.

reply

Seems excessive.

In lieu of legislation, we shall just have to arrange for consumer boycotts if any violations of the above are seen.

Although in the cast of "Robin Hood" (2018), I don't think any organizing will be required. People will avoid it without any advice from us.

This probably wouldn't apply under that law is it's an adaptation of folklore. Literally every story that has been told about him has been an adaptation. That's going back at least 700 years for written adaptations. I don't think we will every stop getting Robin Hood stories. So even if the previous adaptation didn't suck I'm sure there would be a grandfather clause put in place for folklore as there are just too many ways to tell the story.

Yes this is a little tongue in cheek.

I would most CERTAINLY make the law apply to folklore. If Hollywood did a big budget, live action adaptation of Paul Bunyan less than a decade earlier, they would be banned from doing it again.

Ditto with fairy tales and classic literature. We don't need dozens of live action adaptations of The Jungle Book made within a few years.

I understand your feelings. To insert the requisite "taking a comment too literally," such a law would, of course, be completely unconstitutional.

And my tongue is firmly planted in my cheek.

Hollywood film studios are hereby PROHIBITED from making movies.

5) Any film, fictional or based on fact is exempt from PC insanity laws. There will be no African Americans or other unlikely races running around England/Europe.

6) As per above PC insanity laws. It is unlikely that there would be many women who could have beaten men in hand to hand combat or even wanted to. (Vikings, I am looking at you).

7) Thou shalt not copy the style of Game of Thrones for everything.

8) Accents, lets try and get them even almost right, hey?

Got a problem?
Just ask big daddy gov to fix it for you!

Sigh...
