It deserved better than a 6.5 - Spoilers

It was a good story, with an improbable ending of the two lovers making their escape from the bigotry of the town and suddenly winding up together in a Japanese internment camp. Maybe the internment camp scene was meant to show a dream sequence or wishful thinking by the screenwriter.
