Too many white men surviving fatal injuries

So is it just me or are there too many black people dying on this show while a lot of white people are surviving injuries that should ordinarily be life-threatening?

Somehow Bill survived an entire night with a bottle in his jugular. You'd think that if he hadn't died instantly, he would have eventually choked to death in his own blood. But he's not only alive, but on his feet and apparently uninjured.

August survived getting shot in top of his spine while he was in the middle of the river. The shot somehow not only didn't kill him, but also didn't weaken him so much that he drowned.

And yet we've lost how many Black people so far... 4? 5?

I could have sworn Tom said that Bill was going to die because of the condition he was in. Didn't realize that was Bill in James' face until Sam said Bill was giving James a hard time because of what Rosalee did. Bill should have been gone. I could see August surviving. He acts like a bear/gorilla type of hunter where nothing phases him, like its a pinch. Like pain is only in the mind. LOL.

I'm OK with August dying since he's some sort of antagonist/Dragon role in this story. But Bill's "revival" was completely ridiculous and unnecessary.

What value has he added since he woke except for making the whole reason of Rosalee needing to run and messing up the plan pointless?

After discovering his body and realising Noah and Rosalee were missing, it was easy enough for the white people to put two and two together and connect them both to the murder. Everything that happened would have happened in exactly the same way.

His being alive is especially grating when you compare it to the number of significant black characters that have died.

reply

He's probably going to be killed in a special way

And more blacks were being killed then whites. THis show is showing you reality

reply

Nope it's reaching. Bill should've been dead from a wound like that.

reply

yes, he is. Even modern medicine would have a hard time fixing an injury like that - assuming he managed to survive the night and this is the 19th century. Unless he's a Terminator gone back in time and this was a spoiler clue. 😒

reply

Bill should realistically have died from that wound. And unless he's lynched, I don't know how much more gruesome than a bottle to his neck, his death can be.

reply

No, I meant his death will come in a more satistfying way than a stabbing off screen. I wouldn't be surprise if little James finds a gun and shoots him. That would be much more interesting

reply

August wasn't shot in the spine, it was through that piece of muscle above the shoulder. You wouldn't die from that.

Bill is the only white guy with a miraculous recovery, and still, there are safe areas in the neck where you can take a stabbing and survive. I thought they'd killed him off though because he looked pretty dead. The only reason I can see them keeping him is if they were planning to turn him into a "mangy one-eye" type character. You know, the one who takes all the damage becomes such an eyesore he can't even recognise himself, goes rabid and has to be put down by his own master. He's already sort of an old "long in the tooth" type already.

I think you should keep in mind though that slavery was pretty safe for slavers. It's not like it's an equal war going on. Most times, most situations, they would have the advantage in arms, numbers, experience...

And Noah also survived a bullet wound to the chest. By all the blood he was losing, you'd guess he got hit in a lung. But by the power of antibiotics he's up and about. Cato has a really massive faceburn. Maybe they just didn't hire a medical consultant.

Clever people will recognize and tolerate nothing but cleverness.

So true, OP! My husband already refused to watch yet another "slave" movie.. And now I'm almost embarrassed I'm still watching.. What's the point? Who is "supposed" to be the "heroes" of this damn tale? And that strong, young black male slave should've been able to overtake the frail little slave auctioneer, especially since he was engaged in fighting the Macon brother. But no, he falls easily.

And WTF about Sam? How simpleminded did they make his character? They set it up like he'd be more intelligent.. He refuses to run with the 7. Only to stupidly run all frantically and conspicuously, in plain sight w/no discernible plan or forethough; only to get busted by a kid who should've been in bed. Then he only gets 10 feet before getting caught!

Understandably Rose and Noah had urgent reason to dip immediately, but I don't recall why Sam had to run at that exact moment, and w/o his brother. WTF was that about? Why not wait til the middle of the night and just ease off. SMH at how stupidly the slaves are depicted.

And why did the Indians turn on and start shooting arrows at the slaves, and not the traders?

Makes you say....Hmmmm... who's writing this ish.. and WHAT'S really the agenda?!

reply

there's a whole thread on "historical inaccuracies"...I finally found them so outrageous and stupid that I quite watching. The writers have a wealth of material and characters they could have used to make something truly masterpiece-worthy, instead, we just get 21st century thinking and acting all dressed up in costumes. Sloppy writing - no excuse for that. They've got great material, outstanding actors, great locations and they blow it.

reply

let's face it, the writing on this show is sloppy as heck. (See the thread about "historical inaccuracies") I don't see how it gets a 7.9 rating. With such a wonderful material, it's a shame that the writers didn't do their "homework" and stick all these anachronisms into the mix. What we are watching is 21st century characters, thinking etc playing "fancy-dress" too bad.

reply

You stupid trolls. This show is rated high because of the storyline, not historical acuracies. THis isn't a history lesson, geared to get everything in history right.

You see how much dejango in chains and the Inglorious Bastards are liked. Just like this show, they aren;t liked for their acuracies on history but for the outrageous action scenes and deep moving plots!

reply

ummm get a grip

reply

Then say anything to you. But since you yelped, you must be one of the trolls I was talking about

reply

Too *beep* right, I wouldn't minded if the slave-catcher was in season 2 -- but he got gut shot in the 19century and he didn't get immediate medical attention, this is too unrealistic
