Stine's revenge

Stine should have gotten the preacher too. After all he was the one who got in Tom's head about hanging Sam. I know she couldn't have hanged both of them because then it would look like foul play. But she could have poisoned him the way she did Pearlie May.

I agree, there should have been more to this story. I said this in another thread on this site:

I think Tom got what he deserved. Even though Ernestine got away with it, I wanted them to show just how clever she was. The affair between Ernestine and Tom was a good back-story. Ernestine is a very interesting character. She is strong, smart, determined, vengeful, passionate....and dangerous. They could have made more of that situation. It seems that they just walked away from it.

If, as you suggest, she should have gotten the preacher too...well, that's another way to tie this story up nicely. But, I think they should have done something more. To kill the 'Massa' was BIG!

reply

That was BIG. I totally was not expecting that. But I sure enough was rooting for her!!!

I don't get why Tom was murdered. Was he really going to take her to Washington? If so didn't she have a chance to run to safety at that point? And why did the older house servant help her? So many questions!

reply

Essentially because he killed her son. She doesn't know that it was the preacher who got in his head. Even still she still should have offed the preacher just for calling her a Jezebel.

reply

He was a slave master who killed her son and allowed his own children to abused and hurt... Isn't that enough??

I doubt she would have been able to live with herself is she ran off with the man who killed her son.

reply

She wouldn't run to safety and leave her son behind. I think if he had been allowed to travel with them then maybe she would not have killed him and used the trip as a chance to escape with her son but she would never leave without him

reply

I definitely do not mind Stine getting revenge by killing Tom. It just seemed to be the wrong timing. I'm not going to get into the complicated particulars of their relationship, but at that moment I believe she could have gotten Tom to give her almost anything. I think it would have been smarter for her to see what happened with going to Washington. Maybe then she'd get to freedom, send for James, THEN kill him.

Ernestine planned to kill Tom and not a thing after that. She didn't think about her next move. She had to know Suzanna wouldn't keep her around. The thought of her being separated from James, and Rosalee no longer knowing where she is is heart wrenching.

He said he would send for James but I don't think she believed he would so I don't think she considered that a viable plan plus she was just sick with grief at her children's father murdering her oldest son so she probably wasn't thinking as clearly as she could have been. I'm not sure she would have though Suzanna would get rid of her, maybe she just thought she would make her life a living hell now that Tom was gone and killing him was worth whatever Suzanna would inflict on her, never considering that selling her away was what she would do?

reply

Yes, I don't think she believed he would ever really send for James. I really wish the question was asked about him coming now. It would be easier to swallow the decision to kill him right then.

I also agree she was just sick with grief and wasn't thinking clearly as she could. She wanted someone to pay for murdering her son and I can't really blame her for that.

I SSSSOOOOOOOOOO cannot wait to see what she does next season! She will find SOME way to pay Suzanna back!!!!

reply

I'm really trying to figure out how she would manage to get out of being sold but I'm coming up empty. I HATE that Rosalee isn't going to know where she is and that she'll be separated from James!

IDK, but I really don't want to wait a year. This show could have definitely come back in the Fall or Winter.

I think she will be sold but the other slaves in the house will overhear who bought her or it will become common knowledge bcs she will be known as the mother of one of the Macon 7 and that will cause ppl to talk so I think RosaLee will be able to find out where she is once sold but she will have to make 2 stops now that her brother and mom will be seperated

reply

Would TR be able to stop it? Tom told him the slaves will be his one day. But with his age I'm not sure if he can.

Droid please.

reply

Yes. Ernestine didn't say a word, but her body language, facial expressions and eyes said it all. Suzanna was just cruel and she will have to deal with Ernestine next season for sure. Wonderful acting on both parts.

reply

Signs of a powerful actress! That look she gave Suzanna when they arrived at the block said it ALL!!! She will get her revenge somehow!

reply

And Suzanna had the nerve to tell Ernestine that she was going to raise James as her own. No. Mama will not stand for it.

reply

She wasn't worried about what Suzanna would do and she was thinking very clearly or orchestrate a plan like that.

reply

She would have killed him anyway for what he did to Sam, her other children and herself. Ernestine had no reason to believe anything that Tom said. He even tried to put moves on her when she was clearly grieving.

reply

I was surprised that the preachers slave helped kill the master I was also shocked to see her get put on the auction block

reply

Ernestine is too smart not to think about what Suzanna would do to her and her son afterwards. I'm sure she has already thought of this and has planned a few steps ahead. Even if she hasn't, you can clearly see that she is a smart and vengeful woman, particularly when it comes to her children, so she will ensure Suzanna pays for this in the future.

It is possible that Tom' brother (John) could save her. We already saw that we went a slave auction before and he now knows that he and Rosalee are kin. However, it would be great if Ernestine got Tom to ensure that she and her son were freed in the event of his death. After what he did to Sam, she could have gotten him to give her almost anything.

Also, I do not think that Pastor is out of the woods as yet. If he has any part in the next season and he has interactions with Ernestine, then she get will get her revenge.

I saw something nasty in the woodshed!
- Sure you did, but did it see you, baby?
