One of this year's underrated TV shows

WGN America is no stranger to hosting high quality dramas that go unnoticed by most, given that it was the home for Manhattan for the entirety of the show’s two-season run. Underground fits right in alongside that, as one of the year’s best new shows that should be on numerous top 10 lists, yet seems to have been largely overlooked. The first season boasts a wonderful cast that includes the likes of Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Mykelti Williamson, Clarke Peters, Alano Miller, Johnny Ray Gill, Chris Chalk, Amirah Vann, Adina Porter, Christopher Meloni, Reed Diamond, and lead Aldis Hodge, among many others, but that is only one of its strengths. The writing is more than up to the task of providing capable, challenging material for all the performers, providing an unflinching look at the horrors of American slavery while maintaining the tone and pace of a thriller, complete with narrative swerves that change the course of the story, that only serves to heighten the terror of the atrocities both witnessed and spoken about. The show feels like a science fiction dystopian tale at times, and the fact that it is recounting actual events in history makes it one that works as both a thrilling watch and a sobering lesson in the hardships faced by many during slavery in America, making it a worthwhile show to pick up on. http://www.cutprintfilm.com/tv/five-underseen-new-shows-2016/
