Great show pitty about soundtracks...

I thought the show was an accurate portrayal of life in the late 17th century however the soundtracks and music choice was completely out of sync and made some important scenes in the episodes seem disconnected and strange, such as the social gatherings in the big house of Master Tom's election party! I mean WTF was the music choices based upon or what was the desired effect the director intended... Apart from that great it was a great story line a real credit to the writers and the dialogue was period correct!

Actually it's taking place around 1850 something which makes it the 19th century. But your point is taken.

reply

Yeah I don't really think the up to date music sync well with the scenes, but that's what is to be expected with John Legend directing

reply

They're just trying to appeal to the younger demographic with the music...

reply

I'm 40 and the music appeals to my demographic. It's an excellent series to me...music sets the mood and tone they are trying to convey and it works!

reply

I thought the music was just fine, a nice mix of period music/spirituals and contemporary music. I just wish they'd keep the volume down when there's any type of dialogue.

reply

Yeah I agree, there were some scenes where 'what was supposed to be background music' really conflicted with the dialogue and I struggled to follow the conversation!

reply

I don't like the contemporary hip hop. It's distracting. It does not work well with the scenes, and it's always played louder than the dialogue.

reply

I love the types of music they have chosen for the show, but I agree they need to lower the volume on it if the characters are talking. I can barley hear them talking.

reply

The music's perfect and a cool addition. I swear some of you guys want everything to be basic. Let John Legend come through with the creativity.

reply

I love the music

reply

I think the music was on point for the different scenes
