Funny. 😂 I didn't want to ask a question if you didn't see the episode, so if you haven't seen it yet, stop reading

The one scene with the lady who lived across the street, when the cop went back, the older woman said she never heard of the other woman. Then, they show the inside of the house and it looks like there were a bunch of people acting out the scene back there as if everything is staged. So, I am wondering if everything is just a big setup, although I don't know how the dreaming together part would be a setup.

*** SPOILERS BELOW ***

The scene you mention involves two women apparently named Ann Marie Bowen.
Call them White AMB and Black AMB.

In ep1, Taka is sent to investigate the death of White AMB who died on the stairs of the Belgian embassy on her way up to try to see the ambassador.

TAka goes to her address. WE'll call that House A.
AS he knocks, he sees dead people inside. HE yells to a black woman across the street to call 911.
WE find out later this woman is Blac AMB. SHe goes in to Hose B across the street.
TAka finds 12 people inside House A who apparently mass-suicided.

AFter Taka looks up AMB and finds she is not the White woman AMB, he goes back canvas the neiborhood of House A.
WHen he goes to House B, he talks to an older woman who says she has lived there 30 years, and has no one else living with her.

WHile Taka is talking to the white older woman, we see that there is a group of people in House B, wiping prints and evidence of whatever operation they have been running in House B.
ALl these people exit House B by the back door, and then Hose B explodes. WE see that one of these people is Black AMB.
WE have no idea what they have been doing there.

Later episodes, we see evidence that Black AMB is the leaded or a leader of the group/cult.

I was so confused, I decided to start over. I re-watched ep1 today and will probably watch ep2 again tonight. Maybe I'll have an answer for you then but for now I'd say, yes, there is some form of conspiracy going on, but as you said, the dreaming together thing is not part of it.

I think I will rewatch also.
