Disney may even destroy this Golden Goose

...if they make Elsa a lesbian.

They keep releasing one underperformer/ expensive flop after another and may now kill this commercial motherlode.

reply

I don't think making Elsa a lesbian is a good idea. Children make up the majority of the franchise's fan base, after all.

reply

I agree, and to be honest, I don't understand this fixation on the sexual preference of fictional cartoon characters. Since kids' movies don't involve sex scenes, what's the point?

reply

It's wish fulfillment from the Alphabet people and their allies. They want so desperately to be represented in movies and tv, and don't care how many normal people get upset or turned off by it.

reply

If they went on ahead with it, Disney would lose ten times as much money as Gillette did when they angered their largest customer base with all those anti-male ads. People would be burning their "Frozen" stuff, including the dolls and costumes, and people would be spitting on Disney forever. People would quit going to the parks and Elsa would become a hated name in America.

reply

Nah, it won't happen. The primary audience for "Frozen" is little girls, and Disney isn't going to do anything to make their parents uncomfortable. Because it's parents who actually buy all those movie tickets and DVDs and dolls and costumes, and Disney is NOT going to put them in the position of having to explain about girls who like other girls.

The most I can hope for is that Elsa will tell all her suitors so shove off, she's going to settle down with her sister and a female "best friend". Good odds of that, because it's not like everyone who makes twee musicals for Disney is straight.

reply

Yea probably. I think the closest they got to a lesbian lead was Carol in Captain Marvel. ;)

reply

And Loki!

As for Captain Marvel, I'm staying tuned. They've, uh, laid a lot of groundwork there.

reply

If they do they won't be showing them banging or kissing, most likely will be a really good friend of Elsa who happens to be another girl.

That's enough for adults to get it and for kids to start having seeing that there is nothing wrong with having strong feelings for someone of your own gender.

You don't need to be explicit about it, you can make it subtle. And I don't think that's a bad or good idea, just another character choice.

Anyway, I won't be bothered if they decide to go for a close female friend to Elsa as I won't be bothered if they give her a black or asian boyfriend as long as it makes sense story-wise.

Just wondering. This story is supposed to take place around 1600's/1700's (maybe 1800's). Elsa is already facing prejudice due to being labelled a "freak" because of her powers. If Elsa were outed in that era, wouldn't she probably have been totally ostracized? Seems that it's adding another level of complication to a story that is being targeted to young children.

reply

It's not like Disney has any concern with historical accuracy in their animated films. Not a smidge! But in that time period, if a princess were outed as a lez... she'd be shoved into an arranged marriage and told to pop out lots of babies, same as any other girl. Homosexuality was no excuse for failing to do one's reproductive duty in those days.

Not that Elsa is going to be officially lez in the sequel, see above

reply

It's possible they would have demanded she be deposed and put Princess Anna in her place with Kristoff to produce royal heirs. However, they'd have to contend with her unleashing her snow powers on them first.

reply

Who knew Disney fans were so homophobic?

reply

Lol...are you accusing me of being "homophobic"? Have you checked out my screen name?

reply

Gotta brainwash 'em while they're still young! That is the only thing Disney is thinking. If the film flops that is just the price of cultural warfare.
