Looks pretty similar to Ex-machina

This to me at least looks pretty suspiciously similar to ex-machina, not that it's necessarily a bad thing because it's an interesting subject matter. But to me this is a pretty close call because ex-machina was only released a year ago. The only notable difference looks to be the reason why the protagonist goes to see the "AI" and that possibly the "AI" isn't even AI. I don't know just my thoughts. The trailer was great and if it's even half as good as ex-machina it'll be decent. I have high hopes that this isn't just a complete replica of it.

I had similar thoughts. Fingers crossed that it will just be similar and not a replica/knock-off.
Sidenote: Great trailer score.

Honestly, the plot of EX-MACHINA isn't all that original either, if you really think about it---it's basically just a re-updating of the Frankenstein story for the 21st century. This MORGAN flick dosen't sound any much different in terms of its plot, but since I haven't seen it, I can't say that for certain.

True and any AI story really goes along this line of what it means to be human and if AI thinks like a human it's dangerous. But the overall feeling of this movie is extremely similar to ex-machina. But that's only from seeing the trailer.

What distinguishes Ex Machina is the "Turing Test" angle. The protagonist is an outsider brought to a remote facility to evaluate the man-made creature.

This film seems to be copying that specific wrinkle, which in recent years clearly belongs to Ex Machina alone.

I was thinking there had to be at least one post where someone says, "I liked it better when it was called Splice".

For that, there would have to be people who actually enjoyed Splice. ^^;

I was surprised not to see a thread title with Splice in it. Maybe I have not scrolled down far enough? Nevermind I found it...👽

I would have said that if you hadn't made this post. Seems like I came a bit late here. 😃

I got Ex-Machina and Species vibes from the trailer

reply

I got the Ex-Machina and Splice vibe myself but Splice and Species are almost the same movie. Hopefully this movie has some twime twist or subplot that will make it more than just a I, Robot clone.

Yup that's what I thought.
Same remote location.
Similar person tasked to assess scientific break through/ sentient life form.

Seeing as how the focus seems so intent on what the thing actually is/looks like, I feel like the movie will rely on that payoff more than having a deep movie like ex-machina.

Even looks like they used the exact same movie set / stage as Ex Machina. Seems like a direct ripoff of that film, just with a few more cast members.

Edit: The second trailer reveals it's about a genetically modified girl, not an android... and that makes me happy.
