Very Blade Runner-ish....(spoilers)
Homage to Blade Runner? Who else thought the scene where Morgan killed its "mother"/creator (the Japanese lady) was uncannily like Batty killing Tyrell (almost like it was intentional, even the dialogue was reminiscent). Do you ever get the feeling writers pick on a classic movie, bullet-list certain story beats and then disguise them for a new script?
I'll just chuck in some more:
Lee Weathers = Deckard, the "Blade Runner" tasked with killing the cyborg, and in this case it was confirmed that the Blade Runner IS a cyborg in a predictable "twist" that I guessed about half-way through. Blade Runner leaves this theory in ambiguity, although Ridley Scott has since said in interviews that he thinks Deckard IS a replicant, whether the screen-writers agree with him or not (they don't).
Psych evaluation resulting in interviewer's murder by Morgan was like Leon's interview by Holden at beginning of Blade Runner, IE the interviewer is gradually attempting to trick or test the synthetic being into revealing it's non-human attributes, and gets killed for it.
The Deer = the Unicorn (yeah OK i'm just getting silly now)
It's an OK movie but it doesn't have half the artistry or subtlety of Blade Runner. The score was good, it had a certain style to it and the acting performances were generally good, aside from a couple of totally useless superfluous characters that wouldn't have been missed.
OK I literally just read that it was directed by Ridley Scott's son five minutes after posting this!!! haha
