I disagree, Rooney has a quirk in her face, her cheekbones and big eyes especially. she also has a demeanour that she can turn into something soft (Side Effects, Social Network) and also hard (Girl with Dragon Tattoo). There is actually a stiffness to both sisters naturally, they're not as bubbly or lively as others, but Rooney has an earthiness to her that is an interesting juxtaposition to her characters.
For Kate, there is something stiff and "pulled back" in her expressions. I have seen her in films here and there, and find nothing sensual about her. what irks me especially about her is her lack of lips, because when she tries to smile, she ends up looking like that mouse Fievel from American Tail.
The only time I did find her ok was in The Martian.

Kate Mara is hot and acts believably in all her roles. She really just needs to pick better projects. Better yet maybe she is just being given crapoy projects and has to take them. Freaking completely useless, she's just another greedy *beep* who thought that could be bigger after the small screen. That was the worst decision ever, to left HOC and made the writer killed off her character.
And to be honest, her performance in HOC doesn't as half good as how great her sister was in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo!
Also her performance in Transencdence was wasted in every level, her character had potential and then her own character had became a *beep* as much as herself in real life.

NOBODY did that great in fant4stic because it had a really *beep* script. it can be really difficult to pull off a decent performance when you aren't even given very good material to work with. it's the same case with hayden christensen in the star wars prequels, people only bash him and forget that nobody else did that great either because their characters had *beep* for character development and clearly no one has seen anything else with him in it because he's actually a decent actor
