Bland (Major Plot and Ending SPOILERS)

Well, once they started calling this a character study, I should have known not to waste my time. It started off with an interesting beginning that went straight downhill from there. The beginning shows the girl who survived a typical slasher in the woods B movie scenario. Then we skip ahead about five years or so because the movie wants to do a Where Are They Now? about the sole survivor. And it's far from fun. It's also beyond boring at that point. And not even the fakeouts or final scenes pick up the slow mush of a pace. There isn't much to see.

Camryn, the sole survivor, is slowly descending into madness. Meeting a bunch of new friends triggers her downfall. And nothing seems to be able to stop her descent. By film's end, she kills all her new friends, leaving behind a new sole survivor to take her place.

I didn't like the story. It was mostly boring and worse. It came down to, don't bother asking the question because all you'll find is a hollowed out wreck. It was too predictable. Too easy. I wouldn't even call it a twist. I've seen this ending before in different movies. I think the story had potential at the beginning, then it went the psychological way. And it just fell apart.

I agree. I think it would have been far more interesting if she wasn't imagining it and a copycat killer was out to finish the pagan ritual the original started. The number victims, and the coup of killing the one that got away would have been better instead of her being driven crazy.

But the film maker established very early on she was hearing and seeing things so it was fairly obvious where we were going. Still, a combo perhaps of her having waking flashbacks AND a follower of this guys pagan religion would have been more interesting.

So nice idea; missed opportunity.

I don't know, I quite enjoyed it.

I liked the premise. There are loads of slashers out there, and they almost always end with the victory of the final girl.

Sometimes it's nice to watch something a bit different, and the premise of what happens next was intriguing. And you could argue that if the villain had actually returned, it would've been less interesting for it. The answer to; "What happens after the slasher movie?" would've just been; "Wait 5 years and the villain comes back." Seeing how it changed the life of the final girl, and seeing her go through her own issues whilst becoming the villain herself seemed a better way to go. If they were going to turn it into a generic slasher at the end, why even bother with the whole story at all? You could just make a generic slasher, and not bother with the What Happens After storyline?

As a slasher fan, the kills were still good. But you got an interesting rarely seen take on it. If I want to watch a regular slasher film, I could watch one of the many, many slashers I already have in my DVD collection.
