I have a feeling this thread will destroy Moviechat just like GB2016 destroyed IMDB

For any of you that missed it that GB2016 on IMDB was certainly out of control, probably tens of thousands of crazy posts, it was even victim of an organized attack one day lol. I think they're archived on filmboards.com

What destroyed imdb was all the trolls on different boards. Especially the trolls who flooded the Superhero movie boards with pro DC Anti Marvel and pro Marvel anti DC topics. Heck, most of the topics on those boards had nothing to do with the actual movie that the board was supposed to be for!

reply

Marvel vs DC and sports fans rip into each other like zombies eating living flesh. It's out of control.

reply

I wish everyone could just be like me and like both Marvel and DC.

reply

Or like me and hate all stupid comic book movies.

reply

I'm with you... I hate the stupid DC movies, and enjoy the Marvel films.

reply

No, the boards closed because IMDB was losing control of the narrative, and they thought it would make them lose money.

The "Ghostbusters 2016" boards were not "filled with trolls." They were filled with smart people who justifiably called out all of the absolute morons who defended that soulless, cancerous dumpster fire.

I know intelligence is on a bell curve but for fuck sake when something as cataclysmically asinine and toxic as "Ghostbusters 2016" comes along and cretins are just deepthroating it, enough is enough.

reply

Tulpa is right on the money.
Amazon wants people to read how nice a movie is for you, not to hear people complain or critic or even troll their products. They want to SELL this crap.
So any form of free speech has to be taken down a notch and controlled, if not censored.

That total shit from 2016, which doesn't deserve its name, deserved much worse than just some trolling on IMDB.

reply

Amazon is the devil. They are very much about controlling your brain.

reply

I was more thinking of the many anti Marvel and Anti DC topics and posts on imdb. Not stuff on Ghostbusters 2016. I do agree the people calling people sexist and racist for not watching Ghostbusters 2016 were trolls.

reply

What destroyed imdb was the corporation going full corporate. Many message boards totally destroyed the imdb ratings which were often purchased by the studios. Studios complained that their purchases were offset by the imdb boards and so the boards were gone.

Can moviechat go down the same route? It's very possible, if amazon buys it, just like it bought imdb.

reply

Speaking of Amazon, I was upset to hear last week they bought the CBS streaming service. I don't even use that service but I don't like a monopoly.

reply

Well if DC stopped sucking, it wouldn’t be an issue.

reply

This. In the end 80% of posts on the more popular boards were trolls posting unrelated things.

reply

Is this seriously what exstistance has come to? And why isn't there an actual dictionary default on my phone keyboard? Id this how we evo ur word to a dumer dialack?

reply

I was magnetically fascinated by the GB2016 boards on IMDb. I understand why they'd be a web master or moderator's nightmare, but holy cats was it good TV. It was impossible to tell sincerity from trolls, there were fans who were on-board and fans who were radically against it. The trailers were under fire. It was nuts. It was super-entertaining.

reply

LMAO...THIS ONE IS GONNA BE AT LEAST DECENT IF NOT GOOD...NO WORRIES.

reply

"Trolls" are a pretty little scapegoat, but I don't think that was the real reason.

As for this site, from what I've seen from the mods, I doubt a bunch of rant threads/flame wars are going to raise many eyebrows over on their end. Certainly not to the point of shutting the whole site down.

reply

Nah - at this point we are well used to the fact that films are being ewoked.

The good news is - the illusion of women being men and men turning female is strictly a hollywood phenomenon, having little to do with reality.

reply

I don't think so because Ghostbusters Afterlife seems like an apology for GB 2016.

reply

No, the politics board destroyed IMDB.

reply

imdB was shut down one month after Trump was inaugurated... coincidence?
