First trailer is now out! What do you guys think of it?

I still not sure yet. The tone of the film feels very different from the first two and I am a bit scared that the original Ghostbusters will only be in the film for 5 minutes or so. Still I am looking forward to it and it looks less goofy than the reboot so that is a good thing going for it.

If I get more Ecto Cooler out of it, I'm down....

reply

I still have some left from 2016, not sure if they are drinkable though.

reply

I have one can left. The last time I dark one, it tasted a little funny. That was Halloween 2018.

Trailer didn't wow me...It does not appear to recapture the tone of the original films, however, I do prefer the tone and look of this film over Ghostbusters 2016 which was not Ghostbusters in any sense.

I'm open to seeing this, but I do think this will be more for this younger generation, rather than trying to satisfy the OG fans.

I can't see the original cast having much screen time...Maybe just a one or two brief scenes and that's it.

Got a Stranger Things vibe out of it.

reply

Bigly. Super big time. They just took two things people love and shoved them together. Should make a ton of money.

reply

Thought so too.

reply

Of Course.

And just because I am a fan of Stranger Things, doesn't mean I want to see it in my Ghostbuster movie.

GB by way of Spielberg/Super8/IT/Force Awakens??

no wowed but at least its not femake GB2

I hadn't watched it until I saw this post. Just took a gander. Looks awesome.

They've moved the setting, which allows for a great new take on the old material. The trailer looked more of an adventure film than trying to be funny (although I did laugh at the "Hey, remember that one summer..." line)

The danger is that it will be a big "hey, remember this...!?" nostalgia factory. If they can let it be its own thing, a continuation of the original without just being a rehash: that's what will work. But if it's just a parade of things we remember from Ghostbusters, it won't hold up. Might be able to kick a little dopamine through the brain thanks to those familiar ticks, but it won't hold up to a re-watch.

Since it's been thirty years since Ghostbusters 2 it can't be a straight sequel or a traditional Ghostbusters story.

reply

When they got in the car it felt more campy for s second. It's possible they are just trying to play up the It vibe because of Finn Wolfhard but actual movie is going to be full comedy. You can't have Paul Rudd and not be s funny movie

reply

Yeah the tone is different due to thirty years later but isn't incongruent like 2016, unlike the 2016 trailer this trailer shows a potential balls to the wall, interesting restart.

reply

Jason Reitman claimed that 80s films like Stand by Me & The Monster Squad inspired this movie. I think the trailer looks great, hopefully this will be successful.

reply

Having lived through the 80s as a kid, that's probably true. It's so funny how every time there's something involving the 1980s and kids, everyone immediately thinks "Stranger Things." Uh, that series is based on an entire genre of sci-fi or horror movies in the 1980s that had kids as the protagonists (The Goonies, Stand By Me, etc.).
