Eisenberg ruined the movie for me!

He looked more like a computer geek in the movie, always the same,he never has a different look...also,there was zero chemistry between him and kristen.i wish someone else had been cast...any suggestions?

getting a hooker looked so fake for him

I only like Eisenberg in "The End of the Tour."

reply

I think the hooker scene was awful. It'd only work with Woody himself doing the scene, not with a bad & young imitation...

I guess I'm a rare Eisenberg fan.

I though the reason the hooker scene came across so badly is Eisenberg looks better than Woody. It was a good impersonation of Woody's socially inappropriate, awkward, cringe-worthy behavior in a scene like that. But the fact that Woody Allen is so short and strange looking makes him seem less hostile and more weird, and thus funny. Eisenberg is tall and, while not movie-star handsome, is definitely more attractive. I think that makes his behavior towards "Candy" seem more cruel than just painfully geeky. Woody needs to stop writing for himself. Only he could have played some of the roles he keeps writing, they don't always work for other actors.

I think the film suffered more from poor character development than any flaw in Eisenberg. It did manage to hold some of the charm of classic Allen films, and I liked it for that. Plus, while I normally find Kristen Stewart wooden and irritating, her style seems to work with Woody's dialog.

Movies are IQ tests; the IMDB boards are how people broadcast their score.

Nice post, I agree with you.

I think this nails, for me, that particular scene best. If the whole movie had been an out-and-out farcical comedy, then it would've worked. It came across more as 'Look at how Woody I can act' and was completely out of tune with the rest of the flick. Allen and Eisenberg's public and movie personas are so far apart - The Social Network was so good/popular/Zeitgeist it set the tone (and typecast, somewhat) a successful start to a career - to fight against that with performances like this is possible if you're a very good/popular actor, and the jury is still out as to whether he is.

Also, back to your point; someone who's a total misfit and rarely/never been intimate with a woman would act a lot less comfortable than someone who's average-to-good looking and probably has.

One last point; them arguing over whether to go ahead or not was very good writing.

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

He ruined The End of The Tour too.

Why dont you spend your time doing something positive & productive instead of expressing complaints on the internet that no one cares about?

reply

I think you're missing the point of these boards.

reply

Coming from an idiot who uses the quote "The greatest deception men suffer is from their own opinions" whenever he disagrees with someone.

Because all you did is complain. At least the OP voiced an opinion relevant to the movie.

And if you only care about positive feedback, go back to your Facebook culture, where you can only "Like" content.

Kelsey,we should shut down this site then, this is what everyone is doing here:) ok next time i will personally visit the director and make an official complaint to him, maybe he cares....now you can go elsewhere for trolling...

reply

Lmao no you're totally right we should do exactly that! Im totally serious Im sick of the hate! Just cause everyone else is doing it, that makes it ok? Your logic = f@cked

reply

You came to the wrong person for that,i merely stated my opinion on the casting of the players,i don't hate any of them, but you are welcome anyway..
did you like the movie?

reply

and my opinion is that your opinion is dumb and useless sorry lol. yes i loved the movie

Kelsey. You are an idiot. Shallow of you to think that negative reviews does not apply to a movie you like.

Kelsey you can go and f..k yourself...

I get the impression that Woody saw a little bit of himself in Jesse, which is why he was picked. In all of the movies that I've seen of Woody's, it seems the main, male character is mousy and neurotic in some way. For that, Jesse delivered.

My suggestion would be: Which young actors would you suggest would have been better cast to portray Bobby and Vonnie in Cafe Society?

And BTW, please refrain from continuing to use foul language in your response or I'll be forced to put you on ignore and report you 

Eisenberg's constant stammering out dialogue was hurtful to my ears. I found the movie itself to be on the high side of mediocre, with a long slog between moments of brilliance. I'd give it a B-.

reply

How about tobey maguire and emma stone? he had a similar role in great gatsby and he looks very young for his age...they would be an interesting couple to watch

reply

Jonah Hill would be amazing in that quirky character. Comedians are usually overlooked for these parts, but he would nail it. And someone suggested Emma Stone. Absolutely. The two would be an awesome match.
