EPISODE 9 PORTRAYAL OF HOMOSEXUALITY

The Puri Puri prisoner is the first homosexual character on "One Punch Man" but i think that he is depicted in a quite offensive and stereotypical way. He is constantly hitting on other male heroes and is the only one who is acting less heroically or manly and more hysterically than the rest of the characters. I'm pretty exhausted by this approach which can be easily considered homophobic. What do you think?

I still don't get why some people think that a character of a TV show is the representation of all the gay people in the world.
"PORTRAYAL OF HOMOSEXUALITY" ...really?

Seriously, the way people look for something to feel offended is getting ridiculous these days.

Authors can make any character in any way they want.

reply

wow OP a cartoon offends you?

reply

Yeah it offends me.

One punch man has only one gay character to offer and he is depicted as a caricature of himself, always insatiable and hysterical contrary to the rest of his team whose storylines focus on their powers and backgrounds and NOT their sexuality (neither making fun of it)

One Piece is another example. The gay characters appear to be grotesque ballerinas and trans people are chasers trying to capture Sanji (during the 2 year timeskip) so they can change him and force him to act as a woman.

These things are unacceptable.

Anime culture has to reconsider its approach towards trans/gay people but i admit that that's not easy or likely to happen soon enough because the Japanese society is extremely conservative and deeply sexist and has a long way to go till it changes its views on sexes and sexual orientations.

I don't wanna be the SJW always complaining about the injustices in pop culture but these matters exist and need to be addressed. The most exhausting thing though in this thread are the anime fans like you who are probably under age or just ignorant and have literally nothing to share or at least oppose my arguments.

Honestly learn to take a joke. Whats the point of getting fussed over little things you need to grow a spine instead of constantly expecting the world to cater to you and your world view. I doubt the writers hate gay people but were just poking fun at them particularly extremely flamboyant ones, i dont hate gay people but i still found his character amusing. I'm asian and if I saw an asian being cheap on a tv show i'd laugh along because I know its partially true. As long as your not a flamboyantly gay dude why would it matter.

reply

Prisoner is awesome.
And he really goes against the grain, flamboyant very openly gay character who kicks ass (and not only kicks them!)

reply

I prefer seeing a flamboyant gay man like puri puri prisoner any day vs a standard guy who happens to be gay. I see your point but this is just silly, stupid, entertainment. They're not trying to prove an agenda with the representation of these characters.

reply

I don't know how people can find him offensive when everyone else is so over the top ridiculous.

reply

ONE intended him to be accurate
