South Park references or coincidence?

So the killer cut the left hand off his victims and I thought that was just like in one of the South Park episodes. And later when *spoiler* the husband is in the hospital, the doctor comes and says "he... needs more time" also a quote from South Park, I lol'd and thought that can't just be coincidence, right?
