Well that was annoying

I just watched this with my husband on his PC (sort of just looked over after it had started) and thought I was watching a trailer...looked pretty cool. Then I realized it was more like a movie teaser clip, and I was intrigued. When I realized I'd just watched a short, I was a little annoyed. Why would you put so much money and effort into something like this if you aren't going to go all the way with it? And Van Der Beek and Sackhoff? Moderately big names for something like this. I thought it was going to be a movie, surely. Dammit. Doesn't look like there's any way to make one of it now with the way they left it either. *angry* Never was a fan of the show, but I would have watched that movie, definitely.

reply

Yeah I was left wanting more too. It looks like a "proof of concept" but the filmmakers have no intention of making it longer either. I thought Van Der Beek was a highlight. I kinda wanted to see more costume action stuff too.

Many filmmakers who are just starting out make short films to get their foot in the door. This particular film kicked a lot of ass. I don't think he'll have any trouble finding work.

reply

I'm guessing the "he" you think won't have trouble finding work is Joseph Kahn, the director. I agree, especially since he's an established filmmaker who's been making music videos for decades. So I don't think he's just trying to "get his foot in the door." He also has made a couple features. And if I'm not mistaken, he self-financed Power/Rangers, so he's probably not hurting for cash. You should look him up. He's not just some nerd who made a cool short film.

Well, according to Wikipedia, there is a Lion's Gate reboot movie scheduled for release next year. (take that with the appropriate grain of salt)

So...mission accomplished?

reply

The Lionsgate reboot was announced quite some time ago. Kahn's Power/Rangers has nothing to do with the feature. In fact, along with Saban, Lionsgate is responsible for P/R being taken off Vimeo and YouTube.

They probably wanted it down so not to confuse anyone when they're planning a real feature film. Has anyone here seen Torue? It sucked the big one. This guy reminds me of Kevin Tancharoen and his Mortal Kombat fan series. He'd made Fame - one of the worst films I've ever seen. Bad asian directors trying to redeem themselves?

reply

I thought it was pretty rough around the edges, but definitely showed some potential.I'd watch it. I read part of an interview with the director Joseph Kahn and he seems like he's pretty full of himself. He said if offered $200 million to make it real he'd turn it down lol, yeah right. As if he'd even get that kind of offer like he's freaking James Cameron or something.

reply

I agree that it showed potential.

If it's all the same to you, I'll have that drink now.-Loki (Marvel's Avengers)

reply

It was only annoying because you had stupid expectations.

WORDS MEAN THINGS! Also, before you come to bitch about a plot hole, rewatch the show/movie.
