why didn't these numb nuts just make a fire when they got cold?

reply

The characters in the film were all very irrational people, had they geared up properly, this ordeal would have been a walk in the park for them and despite the dead old man being flush with cash they bought nothing to prepare themselves for the elements. They kept saying how they couldn't waste time, that the cops would know what was up, when the police had no idea what that old man was doing.

They only knew about the gold because it was in their pockets and the one chick died on top of one of the cases full of it ffs.

But they did have the candles and matches so they could have easily just made a fire to warm up then continue the journey again.

Hey folks,

I'm one of the makers of the film. Thanks for watching it and engaging in significant conversation about it. That's great.

I'm sorry it didn't meet your expectations. That's obviously never great to hear.

Usually, I wouldn't chime in on this kind of conversation but I'm genuinely curious to ask more questions about your thoughts here.

<spoilers>

You guys think the group should have lit a fire. Ok, that's fine. They light two in the story: one in the cabin just after they're about to turn around but find the cabin, and then once at night in the snow fort.

What other times would you think it would work to do that. The afternoon on the first day? Or perhaps the morning on the second day? One of the issues at play is that water soaked and snow-covered wood in the winter doesn't really light very well. (Unlike wood in warmer, dryer climates.)

We haven't had this particular critique before (whether during the development of the script or after it was made), but maybe we missed something. What do you guys imagine in terms of timing for lighting a third fire?

Also, may I ask how you accessed the film?

Thanks.

Again, thanks for watching it and caring enough to discuss it.

Best,

Jason Goode (director)

Wow, thanks for the kinds words.

I saw your earlier post and was really pleased. Not everyone experiences the story the way you hope - everyone brings their own history and feelings to any viewing of a film.

But you definitely did: "Intense and heartbreaking" is exactly how I wanted people would experience it (because that's my feelings toward it). So, thanks, again, for reaching out and helping to spread the word.
