Tired of the hate!

You know the books were sub par and the movies aren't Oscar worthy but damn they are fun. Why does everyone criticize something that's just meant for entertainment. Remember the old Mickey Rourke and Richard Gere movies? Who cares and get your rocks off.

You think posters are gonna change their ways with 10 days to go? 

reply

No..but I have to agree..not sure why everyone has to hate?...it is just a movie..and in the long run, who cares?..there are millions of fans of the books,so I feel the movies are for us..just like all the Twilight books and movies..no one is forced to watch..just like no one forces me to go see Transformers 1.2.3.4.and 5..I really enjoyed the movie this afternoon..and so did all women who were there..one couple..mid 50's..bet the went into the wrong theater...but maybe not..whatever floats your boat, right?

Did you do another survey again?

reply

Jbberry, you've come to the wrong message board if you don't want hate. Also your, "I'll be ur teacher" picture is creepy.

The movie was awful, awful, awful, awful, awful. Luckily i did not have to pay for it.

Heard there was A LOT of laughter in the movie theaters and the most positive thing I've read was about was the lighting in the film.

reply

The I'll be ur teacher is from Star Wars Kylo Ren.

What is your life going to look like once this board is gone since you have spend what .....the last 3 years complaining about it?

Did you know MyaRose is almost 37 years old?

Don't tell me you love animals if that's cow muscle on your plate.

reply

And? You're now attacking someone's age? *beep* you. Who have to resort this *beep* low and degrade yourself because opinions exist and they don't see eye-to-eye to yours? Did you really have to pull a Trump and be some disgusting human being who needs to discriminate a person's age? Wow. I know some users love this movie, they like to share their love, but I never read a mean comment from them where they defend their fan base with discrimination. You're tired of the hate too? How ironic that you exemplify more hate than anyone else.

reply

How is referring to someone's age "hate?"

I agree. Aging is a beautiful gift.

You definitely didn't bring it up out of love so don't kid yourself!

You brought it up in an attempt to embarrass me but i'm Teflon baby, plus me and Souleiado1 have been having it out for years, she did the whole "look at your life" "Why are you here" routine before you came along! Heard it all before.

reply

I don't know you are even talking about. I have been on this board since 1999 and have seldomly complained you ignorant fool.

reply

It's not you , it's Myarose who has spend the last 3 years complaining , hating etc.....on everything regarding 50 shade, making it a hobby . That would also involve making fun of people.

I care and I hate this crap because works of fiction can have huge consequences in the real world, both good and bad.

"To Kill a Mockingbird" is fictional but it highlighted real issues in a way that made millions of people think about bigotry and civil rights in a new light. That had a large real world effect.

"Jaws" is fiction but is spawned unnecessary shark hunts all over the world that nearly decimated several shark species. As a result, the book's author, Peter Benchley, wished he'd never written it or allowed a movie to be made from it.

"Lolita" inspired the disturbing social trend of referring to sexually attractive and precocious teenage girls as "Lolitas" even though the book is the story of a pedophile rapist's obsession with his victim. Apparently some people who read the book weren't smart enough to realize that Humbert is not only an unreliable narrator but a delusional one so his contention that Lolita seduced him is intentionally deranged. Nabakov himself was horrified by how many people completely missed the entire point of his book, including many publishers who insisted on selling the book with sensationalist and sexually provocative book covers.

"Fatal Attraction" showed the potential consequences of a married man having an affair with someone they barely know. As such, adultery rates among men temporarily plummeted after the movie's release.

The FSOG books and movies have become popular so, they will sadly influence culture on many levels. That makes them very real. Disturbingly real given how damaging romanticizing stalking, manipulation, abuse, rape, and non-consensual sexualized violence are. There have already been beatings and rapes where the men say they were inspired by the books thinking that their popularity meant that "women really want this". "This" being forced sex and sexualized violence. Since the female character in the books frequently protests and is ignored by Grey but pretends that it's fine because she had orgasms, the books also trivialize rape and invalidate the trauma of women whose bodies happened to orgasm during assault. This is even more disturbing when you consider how many younger women, even teenage girls, read these books along with Twilight, and now think that being stalked, controlled, and violated is romantic and "hot".

The books have only been around a few years but they've already had a devastating impact on the lives of many women, especially young women. Psychological and sociological studies from researchers at Michigan State University showed that in just three years, young women and girls who'd read at least one of the books were at higher risk of intimate partner abuse, rape, stalking, alcohol poisoning, and eating disorders compared to women of the same age, ethnic backgrounds, and socioeconomic status who'd never read any of the books. Women and girls who'd read all three books were at the highest risk. This indicates significant correlation and the possibility that the books encouraged those women and girls to ignore serious red flag behavior from dangerous men.

We are already fighting an uphill battle with raging sexists in charge at the highest level. The last thing we need is stalking, abuse, and sexualized violence made not only socially acceptable but desirable.

reply

Just because these books don't mirror any issues in your life, it doesn't mean that it's not reflective of someone else's turmoil out there in this great big world. Have a little compassion.

I'm sure for that virginal college graduate, who's encapsulated by a sexy and weird billionaire's obsession, struggling to find herself in the depth's of his pocketbook, this movie is a saving grace. This movie is the tether for their very existence.

And those Gere and Rourke movies we're unbelievably, awful crap also. Crap is crap.

It doesn't matter if these garbage books and movies are "meant for entertainment". They've had a massive negative effect on society and, as such, some of us refuse to forget about that.

Anyone relying on this ridiculous crap to "get their rocks off" has no business having sex or masturbating. There are literally billions of things on this earth sexier than this crap. Even forgetting about the horrid writing, terrible acting, and pro-abuse BS, there is nothing even remotely hot or sexy about any of this.

reply

LOL! There is nothing entertaining about this movie. Get of your damn high horse and shut the f^ck. These movies deserve all the hate. Get over it.

reply

Yeah, the first movie was solid 1/10.
