Paget Brewster

When Gerald's mother was revealed, I spent several minutes racking my brain trying to figure out where I'd seen her before. I didn't catch Paget Brewster's name in the credits, otherwise, I would have recognized her from "Criminal Minds" fame even though I'd never seen that show.

After a few minutes, I started remembering her from being in a 90's sitcom, then it finally clicked that I had just seen her the night before when I caught a few minutes of this "Friends" episode: The One with the Dirty Girl (1997). I never realized until last night that Kathy was played by Paget Brewster.

The second I saw Paget Brewster in the credits I said, "Kathy from Friends!" Then they showed the actress and I couldn't place her... she looks really different with long hair!

Community, the yahoo screen years.

There was an article last week where she said they changed her hair so she'd look less like Courteney Cox. Watching her last night, I thought, "She does look like a less-thin Courteney Cox." Back then, she may even have been as thin as Courteney Cox (not that she's heavy, but few women can maintain Cox's extreme weight into their 40s).

She is Dodo Bellacourt.

I don't let anyone hot-comb out my HAIRitage!

She was my favorite agent on Criminal Minds. She added snark, fun, beauty, intelligence and she was badass. She is still missed to this day and people are still begging CBS to bring her back. The show hasn't been the same without her; everyone they've tried to replace her with just hasn't worked out.

I couldn't agree more. She has a presence that creates interesting characters no matter what the genre of story arc she works. She is a great actress, and the rigors of TV work allow for much more development of an actor's skills than big screen work does. It is something I heard William H Macy say in "Off Camera with Sam Jones", and I do think that is true. I usually prefer TV over big screen film, even if it's a movie or mini series on TV. I'm thinking more of the recent remake of Roots, or Agatha Christie or Masterpiece series rather than Lifetime stuff. British TV is where I seem to find more of such movies and series like Inspector Lewis or Jayne Eyre (2006) with Toby Stephens playing a more complex and sympathetic version of Rochester. Anyway, I miss the character, of Prentiss very much like on Criminal Minds, and her departure coincides closely to Simon Mirren's as the one of the showrunners. The show faltered a bit after 2011, though it's now more enjoyable than it was in the couple of years after his departure.

She is the best thing about "Another Period".

I'm having a hard time buying her on this show.

Oh, she was the woman Chandler had a crush on! I didn't realize that either. That was a memorable Friends sub-plot among many.

I still can picture her watching late-night TV with Chandler and, yes, very attractive for all the right reasons.

Hate to admit I never recall seeing her in anything other than Criminal Minds -- which I loved. So it's hard for me to equate her to comedy other than the random one-liners she sometimes had on that show. But I have to say, she is pretty good at comedy -- had several laughs and I am someone who never, I mean NEVER watches comedy shows. I generally hate comedy shows and refuse to watch them. I much prefer the subtle or sarcastic humor that shows up in dramas with great zingers like West Wing, NCIS, Jag, etc.

I tried to follow up with watching Grinder as well and actually laughed a few times there too. Maybe I'll finally break my streak and start watching sitcoms again.

Paget is really good in the comedy format. She was great in a very early episode of "Two and a Half men" and one of the funniest guest stars they had in 12 seasons. I really like her on this show and she's got good chemistry with Stamos/Peck.

reply

Paget is growing on me since the first episode.

Her and Stamos have a good chemistry with each other.

reply

You know, I never liked her in Grandfathered, and I never saw the chemistry between her and John Stamos, probably because I have always felt Stamos was a Teflon man and I didn't think he was funny. His role on this show was so ewwwwww/smarmy, and it always seemed they told Paget to keep her comedy on a tight rein so she wouldn't outshine Stamos. Of course, that's just my opinion, and I was only watching the show because Paget was on the show, and she had been my favorite female character on Criminal Minds. In my opinion, CBS made a stupid mistake letting her go.
