The title fooled me

I misunderstood from the opening narration that this program's objective was to portray the truth as opposed to the legends and lies, but from the episodes I've seen, the show portrays some truth, some legend, and some lies.

For example: The Custer Episode. Custer was born in Ohio and raised in Michigan. Why have the actor use a southern accent? It showed that Benteen hated Custer after the Major Elliot debacle, but Benteen hated Custer when he first reported to the General for duty. He wrote that he had to listen to Custer's bombastic exploits for a long period of time and thus despised him from that point. The terrain for the battles is completely inaccurate, but I know physical accuracy is not the focus of the series. Other scenes are not shown accurately, either, such as when Custer receives a telegram asking him to return to duty after his court martial. He and Libby were actually having dinner with friends when the telegram was delivered.
