The most disturbing thing

Why is every male in the outback made out to be sexually deprived rapists? I just think its completely unnecessary.

reply

To be fair only 2 of the entire cast were portrayed that way. They were easily counterbalanced by characters who showed care and respect. Also Eve was supposed to come across as vulnerable to begin with and as you go through each episode you see her character and strength develop to the point that she wouldn't take any crap like she did in the earlier episodes. I actually felt they toned down Micks sexual depravitiy, he seemed much more of a sexual predator too in the original movie. That side of him is almost completely non existent in this series. Only at one point did he ask one of his victims to give him a kiss.

reply

Rape was clearly implied when Mick offered to "stretch out" the woman doing roadside yoga.

reply

Such men do exist and they do go after pretty young women like Eve.

It's not exactly unheard of, although it's extremely cliché for young women protagonists
to be emboldened after suffering or being threatened with sexual assault like Eve seemed to be.

That said, it's similarly cliché for someone to seek revenge after losing their family.

The most disturbing thing is how anorexic the main girl Eve is and how we are supposed to believe that she can pose any threat to Mick. All I kept thinking was don't they have burgers in the Outback to feed this poor girl...

reply

Ok, fatty ... calm down and eat some Doritos. Sheesh.

reply

Anorexic? Did we watch the same series? She was very toned.

reply

Anorexic, huh? I thought she looked fit as fück. You sound like a hater who's probably fat.

reply

I mean, I get where you're coming from... But it's a horror franchise.
It's a classic trope. The backwoods idiots or monsters hell bent on murder and rape.
In Straw Dogs, they were Cornish.
In The Hills Have Eyes/Wrong Turn/Deliverence/I Spit on Your Grave etc they are American, mostly from the South.
These kinds of slasher/jump scare movies always have the hicks, and most of the time, those hicks are rapey.
