Parker Lewis Can't Lose?

I can't believing they're temaking PLCL. With all it's publicity it's doubtful success is abound, but one can never tell.

reply

But Parker aired when there were fewer shows on and Fox was new, So the network took a chance. This isn't going to work now.

reply

Parker Lewis was good, though.

reply

Weird, that's exactly what I was thinking when I watched it.

reply

Parker Lewis was the TV adaptation of Ferris Bueller. This is much worse.

reply

At least they kept the naming convention:
Parker Lewis/Ferris Bueller/Cooper Barret - Can't Loose/Day Off/Guide to Surviving Life

(OK, they added an extra word to this one... but the same amount of letters in each protagonists first name. Par-ker-Fer-ris-Coo-per---Coo-ker..koo-per..poo-ker..par-ker Parker Bueller -- Cooper Barret)

reply

Cooper seems like a douche. Maybe Ferris & Parker were, too. But they were high school kids. They never bothered me. Cooper seems too old to be acting like this.

reply

Parker Lewis

Lol, my first thought upon seeing it too

The difference between Parker Lewis, Ferris Bueller, Zack Morris, or whoever was that you actually cared about those characters because the writing was interesting and fun. I haven't seen enough of Cooper Barrett to be able to judge if he is as interesting but judging from some comments I would probably say he is not.

I've been mildly enjoying the show. It's made me like a Charlie Saxton character, since I really didn't like his character in Workaholics, purposefully so. As for Cooper, I don't think he's as interesting as much as he is the thread that ties the group together. His roommates to his neighbor to his brother and sister-in-law. The show might have his name on it, but he seems to be more of a frame in which we watch his rather inept friends and family somehow pull his ass out of whatever situation he is in. They enable him to be the dreamer/winner who's gonna get the girl in the end and life is gonna be okay.

Just caught this show last night, and liked it because it was funny and clever (one of Barrett's roommates start dating a young lady whose dad, as it turns out, in involved in some shady business.) I pretty much caught it by accident, since I had no idea it was even on. And yeah, I was trying to recall what old show it reminded me of, and "Parker Lewis"--a fave of mine back in the day---was almost the first thing that came to mind. I've seen only one promo for this show (from a couple of weeks back)and didn't even know it was actually on 'til the other night. Where has Fox been hiding this show?

reply

I guess I can see some similarities between this show and Parker Lewis but for me personally it pails in comparison. Parker Lewis was kinda like a b grade tv show but in a good way. You could feel the comraderie between Parker and his buds but the relationship between Cooper and his friends feels forced. Parker Lewis was just tons of fun overall, this show I get a few slightly amused grins.
