Ambitious but disappointing

Level Up is well-produced — the luxury treatment given to a possibly underserving idea. Despite its imprecision, it still remains a visually exciting movie with many merits considering its budget. I feel Level Up is a great advertisement for some of the British Film Industry’s most exciting upcoming talents- simply put to work on the wrong project. http://www.cutprintfilm.com/reviews/level-up/

The trailer looked really good, but the review plus the rating here on IMDB is so low, it makes me pause and wonder whether I should watch it.

I liked it and thought that it stayed true to the style that it is meant to portray.

In my opinion, this was shot in the environmental style of video games. The characters that you meet along the way very rarely have a side story, you know nothing about their motivations, and the dialog options are limited. You also get thrust into a situation with little or no back story, and you have to piece it together as you play. The movie deliberately does a really good job in staying true to this style.

The problem with this style is that it doesn't necessarily translate well into movies that most people will enjoy, or even understand.

Ehhh... it was entertaining. I watched it for free on netflix so it was no lost. Nothing great... but it was a good way to kill some time.
