This is the type of show that the pseudo-intellectuals love simply because it has subtitles and it makes them feel smart to say they watch something with subtitles.

If this show was in English it would be getting absolutely hammered by the critics. It cannot seemingly decide whether it wants to be a serious period spy drama or a comedy and it fails therefore in both. The idea they would have just pick a normal soldier and plant him deep cover as a real german lieutenant is ridiculous. Without training they have him doing ludicrous things, with the most absurd coincidences required for things to work out. Things are more stupid when you realise there is a perfect asset ready to be turned already in the barracks who has the perfect cover.

Its palatable viewing, but thats all.

Couldn't agree more. Purely for veging out when your brain's tired.

Or maybe people just enjoy it, it's not a hard concept to grasp.

You don't know that, so....

Feel free to carry on with your little tirade, you've obviously got a stick firmly wedged up your arse about it for some reason. The problem with people like you is you can't just let other people like what they want to like, you have to act like a twat about it.

That's exactly how I'd describe James Bond movies. Still some people enjoy watching things like that. Don't think 'pseudo-intellectuals' is the correct label for that.

The show is great despite the language... If you were alive during that time there is a lot to relate to... The music selection is top notch. The layered storytelling is worthy of any spy film...much bette than the recent Jason Borne series which was just action.

If you need that sort of action, you need to know you don't actually like spy films...

Stamms ability to make up lies on the spot and see the way out makes him a natural spy, and if you think that the film being in German makes any difference for that you are a fool.

I actually came onto these boards to see if anyone could explain why the black American General was speaking German?!? That *beep* would never happen... I am a Marine veteran and the chances of having any US General speaking fluent German now or in the 80's is as likely as America bringing peace to the world thru the military industrial complex...

I believe that he was married to a German woman and lived in West Berlin or West Germany. He would absolutely need to know German in either case.

I didn't enjoy it. After two episodes I gave up. The music though, was incredibly good.
