Is the lead actor good looking?

I feel like the character is presented as though he is, but I can't get over his asymmetrical eyes making him look sort of Quasimodo-ish. Is that just me, am I too picky? I know almost everyone is somewhat asymmetrical, but I found this kind of on the extreme end by cinematic standards (for a seemingly dashing young chap who gets the pretty ladies to fall for him).

He's not an American pretty boy, like Ian Somerhalder. He's just what you'd expect an average German to look like. I think that's the point. Remember that East Germany was a totalitarian society. Socialism wants everyone the same. They didn't like it when people stood out, except when it came to high level government officials.

Also, this is the story of an average kid. One who isn't Jack Bauer or as smart as Jack Ryan. This is just some kid who has been pulled into something he really didn't want to get involved with, but has little choice. The drama is in his average-ness. With know with both Jacks that they will get through whatever tangled web they throw their way. With this guy? Not so much.

I love the choice they made. I think he's adorable in personality and his acting is superb.

I never considered that aspect b4...that Marxists/socialists do not want anybody to be hot.

Oh yeah, that is definitely the way they think. In fact, this sounds crazy, but there was a popular children's book that was written in defiance of socialism and marxism (which despite what people say, are the same; oh and I don't capitalize marx as a personal rebellion). It takes only a couple of hours to read and it's actually a kind of cool story. If you're interested, try reading A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'engle. There's one scene that I never forget. All children on this one planet are the same. They even bounce balls at the exact same time. Granted, there is a reason why but I think she was still sending the message that sameness isn't a good thing.

Thanks for your comment!

Agree. If you just glance at him you get the sense that he SHOULD be attractive but then you notice the asymmetry and it throws things off. But I don't mind. Not everyone on TV needs to be perfect looking.
