Maria and the Ranger

I couldn't tell the two women apart throughout the movie. They resembled each other so much! One was Scott's daughter and the other was the Texas Ranger. Was Maria a step daughter or adopted? (I fell asleep in the movie).

they look nothing alike.

one was a texas ranger and pretty much always wore the hat and was in uniform.
