This Film's Villain Is Real - And He Murdered Jeremy Sisto's Colleague!

The blurb on the DVD cover said that this film was 'based on a true story'. Some people have cited newspaper reports of an intruder breaking into a family residence and hiding in the crawlspaces. I have no idea if these are genuine or simply urban myths, but I DO know that the following story is 100% true.

In 2006 Jeremy Sisto made the wonderful indie movie 'Waitress', the film that propelled him to mainstream success. Before the premiere at Sundance, the film's writer-director Adrienne Shelly was murdered by a stalker who broke into her New York apartment. After the man raped and killed Shelly, he staged a fake suicide to cover his tracks and left her body hanging from the bathroom shower-rail. It was only after her husband, 'Serious Moonlight' producer Andy Ostroy, demanded a second forensic team re-examine the scene that the NYPD twigged that Adrienne's death was suspicious and launched a murder investigation.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to go into all the awful details, but if you want to know more, check out the 'Roadflower' message-board. I left a post entitled 'The Death of 'Red' - A Tragic Irony!'. There are three follow-ups to my OP, mostly in response from queries from others. These should tell you all you wish to know.

For the record, I hope that you have a strong stomach. This case is pretty shocking...
