The accent of the wonderful Mr Clunes

This was a real mixed bag, I loved part 1, hated part 2, and was a bit mixed about the conclusion. Biggest gripe though, he moved from Scotch to English at will, did anyone else notice?

When he said Mr Leeman was dead i thought he said he's still in bed

reply

There were part in episode 3 when he shouted at someone he lost the accent completely.

To be honest that was no biggie for me.

I have far more trouble reconciling that this is the same guy I saw playing an imbecile in Men Behaving Badly.

reply

I noticed. Seems Martin doesn't do accents very well.

He also looks very different! Either he's lost a lot of weight or he just got older, but I hardly recognized him as the actor who was on Doc Martin.

The Doc Martin series just concluded its 7th season last November 2015. I think it was between series 5 and 6 when Clunes lost considerable weight. However, in series # 6 and #7, he is much thinner---like he is in this mini series.

reply

LOL! He was very hard to understand while he was trying to do a Scottish accent - which he gave up on in the end.

Excellent show though and very good interpretation of the book.
