Any Sono Sion fans here ?

I think this film has the potential to really surprise people. What do you guys think ?

reply

not sure, haven't heard anything about it yet. in what way do you think would it surprise people?

but yeah, my favorite director + my favorite genre = i'm excited!

reply

I can't wait. He's one of my favorite directors... Love Exposure and Noriko's Dinner Table are classics.

reply

I can't wait to see it! Just watched 'Why don't you play in hell?' again. Sion Sono is a madman/genius! When and where can I watch this new movie? Anyone know?

reply

Yeah I'm a huge fan too. But I'm looking forward not only for this movie, but also "Love & Peace", "Shinjuku Swan" and "The Virgin Psychics (aka. Minna Esper Dayo: The Movie)".

reply

I saw Love & Peace, Shinjuku Swan and Tag.

Love & Peace won public award for best asian movie in fantasia festival while Tag won jury prize *cheval noir* for best movie. I agree with both awards, two very different *clever* movies.

Tag is one of the most surprising movie i've seen in years, it is so much better, weird and mysterious than what the trailer shown.

reply

I love this director but I would like to know if you understood the whole plot of Tag. I have watched it twice and I still have a few questions I don't understand but I don't want to give it away. All his movies are bloody which is cool and I liked tagged but it is hard to understand everything that is going on in this one. I understood all his other plots but this movie I had questions. Love Exposure is my favorite of his, also adore Suicide Club, Noriko's, and Cold Fish. I own all of those. Strange Circus was sick as hell but I understood it lol!

reply

Haha, the climax of Tag is definitely a similar kind of 'sick' to Strange Circus, but less comprehensible!

I don't know. As I was watching it I imagined this movie would frustrate and turn off a lot of people, and yet at the same time, I couldn't see why, because the movie is so goddamn entertaining and enjoyable throughout, that trying to make sense of it all in the end can only be fun for me. It's just part of the (overwhelmingly positive) experience of watching the movie.

Some of the posts on these message boards and elsewhere, explaining it, make some kind of abstract sense. I dunno. I think this is a movie that's gonna be rewarding to rewatch, as my own interpretation evolves...

One of my fav. Filmmakers of all time. Crazy genius. I loved Coldfish , love exposure , suicide club, noriko's dinner table, why don't you play in hell, strange circus. His movies have churned some drastic emotions in me. Love him.

reply

Another fan here. He's truly a great director. I wish he was more widely known, although his movies often aren't easy to watch (to put it lightly).

reply

Me Too! Cold Fish is his best work in my opinion.

reply

i love him. just watched tag and why don't you play in hell, back to back. i don't know about surprising people, because i guess most people that know him will also know what they are getting themselves into and those who don't might already get a glimps through the trailer. kinda like checking out a lynch/gilliam movie. ;)

reply

Yes. JUST finished watching Tag. The entire film with English subtitles is on freaking YouTube!!!!!!! Just bought the Indonesian DVD off of eBay. It has English subtitles and was very cheap!
