Considering oil price has dropped 60%

and rig count has crashed in the past year, this show is irrelevant already.

reply

Maybe they'll get into that ... I was pretty surprised at some of the realistic stuff they showed.

Still waiting for fat people and podunk strip clubs, though.

chaos reigns

Just because rigs are being stacked left and right doesn't mean the boom didn't happen :) It happened. It was real. It was fast. It was dirty. There was potential for this show to really be great and they would not have had to give it the campy soap opera feel. I could have told them real like stories that would have shocked the socks of people.

reply

And what do real life events have to do with this show?

Did your mother drop you on your head as an infant or are you merely a product of today's educational system.

reply

That has to be the dumbest *beep* I've read all day. And the next time you're asking someone a question, make sure you add a question mark at the end of the sentence. 😊

You are trying to talk about proper sentence structure while starting a sentence with "And". You are a complete waste of space, dear. You were no doubt dropped on your head AND a product of today's (non)educational system. If you had even an ounce of intelligence then you would know art imitates life. What happened in real life is far better than any half-assed story line that these writers created. All they had to do was actually visit areas such as Williston and talk to the locals, especially if they are going to try to use a real life event (such as the oil boom in the Bakken) on a show. Please do the world a favor and do not reproduce. The dumbing down of America is complete with your presence.

reply

Dude, what are you doing? You're a grown ass woman going around a message board insulting people. You could have approached my original reply a hundred different ways, but you chose to ridicule me. Seriously, you need to get yourself a life.

As for using a coordinating conjunction to begin a sentence. There's nothing wrong with that. Check your facts before you call someone a waste of space. smh

I'm done. I won't stoop to your level. Bye, love. <3 😉

You are without doubt a waste of space. The rules of grammar have been tossed out the window because idiots like you are incapable of learning to speak, type, or write properly. The education levels have dropped considerably with your generation which is why it is called the "dumbing down of America". It may be acceptable among your generation today but so is ebonics.

I ridiculed your original reply because this show is based on a real life oil boom in a real life town yet you ask what real life has to do with anything. If someone is going to write a show about the oil boom in Williston then there are enough things that actually happened to create a great show. The real life events are what draw people in to what happened in Boomtown, USA over the last decade.

Mate, I really don't care about your grammar. She jumped on me for not putting a question mark at the end of my sentence.

reply

No, she jumped on you due to the rude comment you made prior to her bringing up the question mark...

reply

Sorry you find the truth to be rude. That is why today's society is in the toilet however, because mediocrity is rewarded and ignorance is accepted rather than challenged. There are definitely such things as stupid questions and she asked one so she got the answer she deserved.

Let's recap. The OP made a statement about the dismal state of the Energy Industry. She asked a question about why that has relevance in a fictional show. A fictional show most certainly does not need to follow current events. If that were true, Star Trek would never have aired, for example.

You insulted her for asking a perfectly reasonable question. She jumped back to insult you, and then, because she started her sentence with a conjunction ("and') you jumped on her because, as we all heard in primary school, you don't do that.

And that is, of course, poppycock. Wilson Follett said,
A prejudice lingers from a bygone time that sentences should not begin with and. The supposed rule is without foundation in grammar, logic, or art. And can join separate sentences and their meanings just as but can both join sentences and disjoin meanings. (Follett, p. 2)

I can find lots more quotes, but perhaps we can leave it up to Abraham Lincoln in the Gettysburg Address where he started a sentence with "but" (another conjunction)
But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate—we can not consecrate—we can not hallow—this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract.

Do YOU find the truth to be rude? Have I sufficiently challenged ignorance?

reply

Pretty sure the ramp in American oil production has a lot to do with exactly why the price has fallen so precipitously. It didn't just come out of nowhere. It's not like OPEC is doing anything different. So rather than being irrelevant, I think it is quite relevant.

reply

It is actually tied more to the fact that one of Obama's major financial supporters did not get control of the Bakken like he demanded. There are so many things that have happened that the majority are not privy to.

Well, this is what happens when a show is stuck in production for the past five or so years. It was originally developed for the 2011-12 seasonm so the original pilot / concept was probably written in 2010.

So, instead of a trillion dollar deal with the rez, they're only gonna make 400 Billion? Oh, the horror, might as well pack it up then.
