Cancelled...

I didn't think it was too bad of a show... Too bad it was cancelled. But at least they got to re-shoot the 10th episode so that they could wrap everything up.... blood and oil get cancelled. Too bad they didn't even get the 13 episodes for the season...

I don't understand why it was cancel the rating were good

reply

The ratings were horrendous. The series finale was the lowest in the history of the 10 episodes at only 3.1 million viewers with 0.80 demographic viewership. That's really low.

reply

Aw I liked this show. I thought that prime time soaps were making a come back.

Really? Dallas collapsed soon after its revival. And I can only think of Empire as setting a new standard.

reply

Here are the prime time soaps that are on: Devious Maids, Nashville, Mistresses, Empire, The Haves and The Have Nots, and If Loving You Is Wrong. Revenge was also one, but it was cancelled this year. I liked Blood & Oil and wish that it was given more of a chance. Dallas was cancelled b/c they didn't stay true to their history. If they would have and had some of the other original cast it would have been okay.

reply

Okay. I do/did watch some of those shows (Revenge and Devious Maids) but never considered them "prime-time soaps". I guess I still consider the initial premise 'The Family and their issues sorted out in a melodramatic way'. I agree on the others you mentioned, though.

reply

Those 2 are definitely soaps. That's what they were categorized. In Soap Opera Digest, Devious Maids has been picked for the last 2 years as Best Prime Time Soap. I like this show, but I very much disagree! Also one year they picked Revenge as Worst Prime Time Soap. Too bad that Aaron Spelling is dead and Darren Starr only does comedies now b/c they were good in the 90's with BH 90210, Melrose Place, Models Inc., etc.

reply

Also forgot one. It's not an American soap, but Americans do watch it. Downton Abbey.

reply

Alright. I think the misunderstanding on my part (as a Brit) is how I view & define American soaps; for me, it's 'Bold & the Beautiful', 'Sunset Beach', etc - which all have a similar tone to them, primetime or not. I'd never have considered the shows you listed as soaps (nor up for awards in that category!).

And i'm a big fan Spelling too. He made some great shows.

reply

I also loved Sunset Beach and was mad that it got cancelled. Do they still show it over there? It's been off of the air for a very long time. And those weren't awards that I was talking about. It's just the Best & Worst edition of Soap Opera Digest that they give shout outs to. Unfortunately they ignore the prime time soaps except for Devious Maids, Dallas, and Revenge. Dallas and Revenge have been picked for Most Disappointing Prime Time Soap. Like I said if Dallas would have stuck to their roots and had more of the former cast it would have survived. I really liked Blood & Oil and thought that it should have been given more of a chance.

reply

No, I've not seen it televised in recent years. It'll probably come back when another similar show gets popular though.

Understood.

Oh, and over here, 'Downtown Abbey' isn't a soap it's a Drama. Strange, huh?

reply

I always thought that Downton Abbey was a drama too, but somebody said that it was a British soap. Then they tried to say Mr. Selfridge is as well. I don't know. You tell me what you all classify them as.

I agree with you. Bold & the Beautiful is a soap (not sure about Sunset Beach, I had never heard of it). The fact that a show is about a family doesn't automatically make it a "soap", and I would never consider Downtown Abbey a "soap", it is a period drama, with good actors, and very decent production (and I love it). Here in America a soap is mainly one of those low cost productions shown in the afternoon, with many so-so actors (and probably a good one here and there).

I was surprised to see you list the Tyler Perry shows! I thought I was the only one who watched them. (I only admit that I watch them because it's just you and me here right?) They have to be the slowest shows on TV, (if the Ophra Network really counts as TV!), I swear they are made for rest homes or traumatic brain injury recovery wards but they're great to watch while doing laundry or writing emails...

reply

I like both shows, but he needs help with the writing. Tyler does the same thing week after week. Like with If Loving You Is Wrong, after awhile I didn't feel sorry for Marcy or Brad b/c they were just as bad as Randall. Marcy and Brad got their revenge(which I was happy about), but if Randall did something both would try to throw it in his face that they slept together. And the same thing kept happening over and over. I was like all 3 needed to move on. It was getting boring. When it comes back, when they show Marcy, Randall, and Brad I'll change the channel. I have no interest in that story line anymore.

reply

The ratings were never good

I don't understand why it was cancel

You don't? Because it wass boring, boring with a capitol B!

reply

It won't be officially cancelled till late May. This is why the network plugged it in the previews as a season finale instead of a series finale. ABC doesn't announce what they are bringing back and what they are getting rid of till all their primetime shows have completed their seasons. B&O was basically cancelled when ABC cutback their episode order to 10 back in mid October. That's when they just stopped promoting the show on ABC television. I enjoyed all ten episodes and will miss the show.

reply

I wonder if they should make it a summer show. There's not much going on then, so they could get new viewers. Although they said that Mistresses which is also a summer show didn't do too well in the ratings this past season.

reply

No it's 100% cancelled. That's why they ended it on 10 episodes instead of 13. As 13 episodes were originally purchased and they officially pulled the final 3 episodes. Making the cancelation final.

reply

I know b/c the last episode was 100% people having happy endings. That said the end right there. Too bad b/c I thought that the show had potential.

reply

I'm a little disappointed it was cancelled but not surprised. While I liked it I won't be losing any sleep cause it's done.

reply

Exactly... it wasn't no LOST or Oz.

reply

Oz? HBO's prison show? I loved that show!

reply

Yeah, it was a great show. Stranger Things is the new killer show.

reply

I didn't know the show was cancelled. I absolutely enjoyed watching it. From the story line to the cast, especially Don Johnson and the chemistry if the snow. I came her to see when the next seriots was scheduled to be aired... Very sad!
