The dog is barely in the film. Maybe 30 second combined and it never gets hurt.

I could not figure out the humane society blurb about no animals were hurt in "those scenes". What scenes? The dog was the safest creature in the story. The hotel clerk "boards" the dog since the hotel itself doesn't offer a boarding service & he tells John at the end it is a most well behaved dog.

The pigeons? The only one at risk was the one Fishburne was manhandling.

It was probably a joke.....a funny way of saying "no the dog doesn't die this movie."

Also in a scene where Morpheus is talking to Neo............uh I mean Wick; he has a pigeon in his hands but in the next scene the pigeon is gone and his stomach was expanded ( not sure if it was already like that though ).
