Don't we have our own stories?

I loved Uncle Buck and I love Mike Epps, but don't we have our OWN stories? Why did we have to call this Uncle Buck? As a female, I did not need a new Ghostbusters that erased the old one and I don't need a new Uncle Buck. Could'nt they just have hijacked elements of the story without insulting fans of the original?
