So, was Morra good or bad?

What is the consensus on Morra? Is he good or bad? I always wanted him to be one of the good guys. I don't mean "he's good in a big picture - the ends justify the means" kind of way. Did he order the purge?

I never liked how the first few episodes were making Senator Morra out to be the big bad of the show. He's the hero of the movie, dammit! They seemed to back off this in the last few episodes, implying (at least to me) that it was Sands acting on his own who killed innocent people, and that Morra was one of the good guys.

I think that if the show had continued, the dynamic would have been Brian, Harris and Morra working together against the Legion of Whom, not Brian vs Morra.

Thoughts?

Well in the episode before the finale, Morra tells Finch that Sands went rogue. I don't think Morra wanted anyone to die. It's just that he left what had to be done to Sands. It's reasonable that Sands went outside of what he was told. Perhaps Morra was pulling the strings but I tend to think not. His character in the movie was not a bad guy. Finch was basically the same guy as Morra and he didn't turn evil after NZT. So, why would Morra?

I was being patient but it took too long.

I have to disagree. Finch is deliberately NOT Morra.

They're both slackers with lots of potential, but there the resemblance ends. Finch has a close-knit supportive family and, as a consequence, a moral core that Morra lacks. He's essentially a nice guy.

Morra was a loner who stole drugs from his dying aunt. He was the protagonist of the film, but in no way a nice guy. I doubt he'd ever have considered winning money just to provide for those emancipated sex-slaves - that's pure Finch, and it's what that undercover gal saw in him, even when the NZT wore off.

The show even made a point of Morra urging Finch to "let go" of his past self, and Finch refusing to do so. That's a very deliberate "temptation by the devil" trope, and it's absolutely meant to show us that Morra is not a nice guy anymore, if he ever was one.

In his last appearance, Morra seemed indifferent about Sands. The impression I got is, after four years on NZT, he's evolved past "shallow concerns" like money and control. He's out to change the world, and therefore a much more dangerous "Big Bad" than Sands could ever hope to be.

I don't know that Morra is necessary a bad guy; I mean, he's clearly set up to be the bad guy, but if what he says is true, he seems like a guy who wants to change the world for the better, even if he also wants to enjoy the perks of fame and success, which he clearly does.

I mean, Morra's clearly not a good guy, but sometimes, you need a bad guy to get the job done. Ends and means and all that jazz.

Morra was definitely a bad guy, he had Sands purge anyone who stood in the way of his plan to become President, like Rebecca's father and all the other users and dealers of NZT. He was hell bent on world domination, no doubt about it.

Oh yeah and he threatened Brian's family if he didn't spy on the FBI for him. There's no doubt about Morra's morality.
