He is insufferable.

I half watch this. Tonight the show started with the main character whining about how oppressed he was. He's white as snow, never didn't have a meal to eat or a ride to any place he demanded to go. His entire family accepts him and no one at his school has once given him any reason to feel uncomfortable.

I've been mocked, called every name imaginable, spit on and beaten in my lifetime. I am strong and successful but this awful character is complaining about party guests and how terrible his great life is.

What an embarrassment to our community. Uuufff...

I thought the same thing -- his complaints aren't backed up by anything real, so he just comes across as whiny.

It seems like they are trying to use every gay stereotype. Where is the negative consequences? I got treated like *beep* in high school. Being gay is not always a choreographed musical number.

Completely agree.

THANK YOU! The Real O'Neals, which held so much promise when it premiered last year, has become a lame one joke one bit show.

While I'm not gay, I couldn't help but think exactly what the OP had to say.

Week after week Kenny cries about how oppressed he is and how much he needs to express his gayness.

While not perfect he does have a wonderful and mostly supportive family (except when Mom gets nervous) and his school - A CATHOLIC school is also super supportive. His classmates have pretty much accepted him...

Makes me wonder if he's the one who's having more of a problem of him being gay.

The other supporting players are a real hoot and are not being developed and used to their full potential because of the overbearing focus on Kenny being gay thing.

I've been watching the show since it began since I'm a big fan of Martha Plimpton and her work on Raising Hope.

I just want Kenny to stop being such a whiny bitch.

Thanks and you are so right about the other characters. Love them all.

I do definitely agree that Kenny's complaining is annoying. He's constantly whining and it feels like the only trait of his character is his sexual orientation and then forgot to add more personality. Well, they did actually and it was making him a cry baby.

However, I think this is the point of the show. I think they are trying to comment on the idea that its 2016 and coming out isn't as taboo as it once was. The LGBT community has made a lot of progress but Kenny is still living in the past and crying that its unfair. It's like a running joke.

He is supposed to be the embarrassing drama queen in most gays biography, he is the only gay in the village. Take it as the creators selfreflection and not as a universal statement on being gay (which btw. nobody claimed it would be).

If I had to watch more "strong and successful" gays on TV, I'd just throw up.

I said none of the things you are commenting on. The character is entitled and pathetic and should be hated.

Ah, yes. Of course.
