Why aren't they even attempting to treat the patients?

They have the patients quarantined, but they're not even giving them so much as I.V. fluids! Not to mention trying antibiotics or antiviral medications. It's a hospital and they aren't even being seen by doctors! The doctors could treat them while wearing hazard suits. Is there some obvious thing I'm missing, or is this a huge mistake in the show?

I'm assuming this is related to the currently implied (but not illuminated) conspiracy... But, I'm giving them the bennifit of the doubt...

Definitely conspiracy between CDC, doctors, and government. "Let's blame the terrorists"

reply

Because the doctors are busy flirting with the teacher and other stuff. First things first :)

Don't believe everything you watch on greys anatomy..

The one who are Quarantined are were exposed to people with the virus , they may or may not be infected .To prvented futer infection they are put in quarantine

The only way to be sure are when they get sick , by then I.V fluid won't do any thing , the people who tried to help them will be put into risk when they tried to give them IV Fluid .

Basically they are left to die

Given that I don't think Dr working on it is "in on it", I'm assuming that it's because they don't know how to without putting themselves at risk as well as it being a waste of resources. It was mentioned multiple times in the last episode that the Dr needs more rats to work with, so it seems his efforts are geared towards helping the community as a whole vs the individual patients who are already sick. It could also be that the higher ups are instructing him to work this way, knowing that it's a fruitless endeavor.

Why they haven't cured AIDS (HIV), cancer, ebola, obesity, being black, being gay, being feminist, being white supremacy or any other sickness/defect/trait with I.V. fluids or meds. It should be easy because there has been people who have survived having been exposed or having been sick and then survived. So it isn't easy common core math that can be solved in few minutes. This show is about containment(series name gives a hint) not about doctors and microbiologist doing bacteria cultivation, viral gene sequencing or them treating patients.

As you can see that normal people, even police are having lower morale standards and they just care for them selves that does apply doctors too. Normal general practitioner can give you recipe for basic antibiotic or pain medication, suture wounds etc, but they cannot do research on new diseases or make miracle cures (at least not in 24 hours). So there might be doctors who are hiding in their office, have left hospital or are helping patients, but that isn't shown here.

We don't want to see one hour episode of Doctor Doogie Howser being in toilet, having constipation and playing Candy Crush Saga, even though it might happen in that containment area.

reply

Because those in charge (CDC/Gov) want them to all to die as part of a cover up.

They tried on the doctor lady. They don't have anything to stop it. He explains it in the brief in the first episode. That's why he keeps mentioning the rats he needs.

reply

But they could at least try to keep the patients comfortable and give them fluids, pain/symptom relieving meds. There's no way if a virus breaks out, even one with 100% mortality, that in the beginning at least, at a hospital, they would just chuck patients into rooms on their own with no treatment whatsoever just to die a slow painful gruesome death.

reply

Supplies are limited, so those who are going to die get left behind. Classic triage situation. Save those who can be helped saved or saved.

reply

But you'd expect that later on, once it's spread. These are the first few infected people and they are already at the 'leave them to die' stage? Even the first doctor who was infected, they didn't have her on a drip or anything! It's not realistic for the first stages of a disease outbreak.

The hospital probably could have treated the first few patients before it got swamped But there lies the problem. They cordon area isn't being resupplied. Maybe officials were caught with there pants down. Maybe it's part of a conspiracy where the gov't released the virus to see what happens in a controlled area. Either way, it's time to save the living and mourn the dead.
