Goth = nerd?

I'm curious--I've been out of middle/high school for a while now so I'm not really in tune with the labels kids give each other nowadays. In the beginning of the movie Cleo was dressed as (what I would consider) a typical goth. Is that what constitutes as unpopular and nerdy these days?

I've never fooled anyone. I've let people fool themselves.
