Sex scene?

I didn't really understand the purpose of the lesbian sex scene. I was very surprised to see this in a Disney Channel Original Movie and I really can't figure out why they felt the need to include it. For higher ratings maybe? Can someone please fill me in?

There's isn't one. He/She is trolling. However, a sex scene between Rowan and Paris wouldn't have hurt.

