Why don't they use drones?

These prospectors like to unnecessarily spend money on helicopters for aerial footage.

The Superstition Mountains are a designated wilderness area and drones are not allowed.

Motorized and mechanized equipment

Motorized and mechanized equipment are not allowed, including drones (see below), bicycles, carts, wagons, chainsaws, hang gliders and off-road vehicles and other wheeled vehicles. Landing aircraft, air dropping or picking up supplies, materials or people are prohibited.

Public use of drones (including quadcopters, model aircraft and other unmanned aerial systems) is increasing in popularity. However, drones are motorized equipment and are prohibited in wilderness. Please help us protect wilderness character by leaving your drone at home when you visit a congressionally designated wilderness area. Federal regulation 36 CFR 261 18a states that the following are prohibited in a National Forest Wilderness:(a) Possessing or using a motor vehicle, motorboat or motorized equipment except as authorized by Federal Law or regulation.(b) Possessing or using a hang glider or bicycle.(c) Landing of aircraft, or dropping or picking up of any material, supplies, or person by means of aircraft, including a helicopter.

I'm wondering how the History channel got their cameras and other equipment in there since helicopters are prohibited from landing and/or dropping stuff off.

I have worked for the USFS for 16 years. My first guess would be that they used pack mules and horses (such as those shown in the first episode) to get the equipment in for filming. The Forest Service still uses this old-fashioned mode of transportation in forests where motorized travel is restricted or prohibited, such as wilderness areas. The History Channel would also have to get permission from the USFS to film such an elaborate show in the area in the first place.

they have a few air shots that rise way up from the ground-and i thought-Drones; a helicopter would raise a dust cloud and be far too expensive for just f 10 second shot-could they have special permission since they probably sold it to the USFS as a "Documentary"? Also those Black helicopters-if they don't have any ID on the side as required by law (FAA) then they must be Black op military choppers....any deep underground bases around there? is it a UFO hotspot?

reply

yes, there is papago army base that is located on some butte mountains, that on more then one occasion, i have seen the top of the butte slide over and nefarious looking aircraft fly out of.
come on, the ground is too hard around phx area to do any serious deep underground digging

Maybe I should get, get me, find me a script with a retarded slave then I get me the oscar.
