Swim Coach

He was a terrible swim coach, he didn't discipline any of those girls even though Heidis bullying actually almost killed Maxine.
I mean I know it's obviously a work of fiction and the story couldn't progress if he'd of actually given her detention (I mean he should have actually expelled/kick her off the team but w/e)
There's no way she should have been allowed to behave in such a way.

reply

I agree. He should have sent her to the principle's office or SOMETHING.

reply

Yeah, I kept yelling "stop them" at the screen lol.

reply

It's just poorly writtten. And who the hell showers in a swimsuit anyway.

reply

A girl who is self-conscious because she's relentlessly bullied?

reply

I definitely wondered how the coach let that behavior go. Back in HS they always requested we leave our suits on for showers after swimming in phy-ed.

reply

As a teacher I am constantly faced with being unable to discipline most students due to what society is like today. there is no discipline in the outer world anymore. not from parents, not from the justice system, not from the police.

and don't get me started on those who are diagnosed with a learning disability! they all have get out of jail free cards! 'oh they don't understand' is no excuse for the schools and the few students who WANT TO LEARN to be subjected to the violent outbursts and worse these children do day in and day out.

we even had a kid in a 12 to one class bring in a knife with the intent of killing his classmate [this is the explanation he gave to the AP when he found it on the child] and all he got was 2 week suspension. he should have gotten 3 months automatic. if he was a 'normal' child it would have been 3 months but since 'he probably didn't understand what he was doing' he got a fortnight.

and when he came back he was placed BACK in the class WITH the child he intended on KILLING!

THERE IS ONLY SO MUCH TEACHERS CAN DO!

Oh God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more.

reply

Indeed, there's only so much you teachers can do. Starting with capitalizing the first letter in each new sentence, no less.

We've met before, haven't we?

reply

There may only be so much you can do. But stopping children from being bullied in front of you should be a given. I thought the teacher's lack of discipline to the other girls showed the writer's wanted us to see him as weak and but she saw him as her fantasy guy.

reply

Through the whole scene im thinking "so the coach SAW the bully climb the stairs to the diving board with the obvious intent of, if not pushing her, then doing SOMETHING awful, and does nothing. Ok then."

reply

That was unrealistic.
