Luna's Italiian not very smooth!!!

The Italian dialogues spoken by Diego Luna have a strong Spanish accent and are not fluid enough for a refined man such as Casanova.

I noticed that too. There were a few places where the Italian grammar and pronunciation were off, but it wasn't as blatant or offensive as what you would usually see with an English language production.

I was gonna say that too. I can hear where it's off a bit but it's still way better than when an American, Brit or Aussie attempt to speak Italian, French or Spanish! It's nice how the Romance languages overlap at times!

First, I am Italian. The accent when he speaks English is simply not Italian, they probably did not have much time to prepare it and it's a difficult accent, they definitely did not use a dialect coach.
But the Italian spoken by Luna is more than acceptable, especially at the beginning. It's only slightly off in a couple of lines and he sounded pretty convincing to me, way better than 99% of the "Italian" spoken in movies.
