Retread

I sort of hoped this would work. But all I saw were tired jokes, veteran actors trying too hard. But I'm sure the same people that like mediocre comedy like "2 BrokeGirls" and "blackish".

Retread means copying everything that came before it. Modern Family for example is a retread. I am somebody who can't watch sitcoms because I saw so many in my youth that it's the same story over and over again. Modern Family included. I tried it - it was the same thing, just a different family. What sets Life In Pieces apart is that it is original in it's format, finally a family sitcom has branched outside of it's tried and true format to present itself in a truly original way. So, while you might not think it's funny - it is absurd to call it a retread because format-wise it is doing something no other family sitcom (at least since the 90s, unsure about before then) has done.

The stories and their themes are what keep me from watching the majority of shows today; that, and the fact that after 50+ years of television, very little is 'new'.

BOHICA America!

After 5,000 years, there's nothing new in drama. Shakespeare isn't considered history's greatest playwright because of his avant-garde plots. What matters is how the writer covers the skeleton.
