Is Duval divorced or widowed?

No wife.

He needs a girlfriend.

I just re-watched "A Suitable Donor" and when the Sheriff picked up the picture at his son's house, I noticed there was no wife in the tableau. I suppose it's not directly relevant to the current storyline. By waiting to see if the show is picked up for a second season, they can shape that story to best suit wherever they end up.

Duval and his sister are intimate, just like Mary and her autistic brother. Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

We'll see, I guess. So far I'm thinking widowed since there's no mention of the kid's mother, such as visitation, but it's also possible she's abandoned them. Or, and I really hope not because this is always a terrible storyline, he could have a Coma Wife somewhere.

Agree, he really does need a girlfriend. The guy's as tightly wound as a clock spring.

Though it might be hard to find a woman who isn't weirded out by his relationship with his sister. I don't think it's strange for them to live together; he needs help with his daughter, and presumably she needs a place to lay her head. This works out for both of them. But the thing is, they act like a couple.

"Hey, buddy, you're the one with the sex toilet."

I felt like they were acting like siblings -- close, but not romantic.

It got less couple-y as the show went on. I'd say their relationship was really nicely developed for the audience over the course of the season, to give the show some credit.

But at the time of roughly the first few episodes, when I wrote that post, I kept having to remind myself she was his sister, not his wife.

"How's the wine here?" "I think you should try the bourbon."

If I had a sister like that, I would have to keep reminding myself that she was my sister too.
