What the hell were Dontnod thinking?

It's so bloody obvious. Max is a photographer, that's the whole point.
Everything in the game happened because she wasn't believed when she saw the gun in the bathroom.
So . . . . . go back (as though to sacrifice Chloe) and take a photo of Nathan threatening Chloe.
Every thing is fixed. All the lessons are learned. No one has to die.
Why on Earth was this not the hidden 'real' ending ?
