Padre Garcia guilty of 'sins?'

In the scene where Padre Garcia introduces himself to Sandokan and asks about his connection to the priest who killed himself, he prays with/for Sandokan. As he's praying, he puts his hand on Sandokan's head and caresses his ear with his fingers, which would be inappropriate in any situation. Since Padre Garcia is sent to the home to find out if the priests there are actually aware that they committed sins and are penitent, this small but implicating gesture seems to say that he too is guilty of the same type of sin as the housemates, and scandalous behavior has infiltrated every level of the church, yes? Were there any other references about Padre Garcia's "impurities?"

I would have to watch it again to find the exact scene, but I do remember one where the camera focuses on his face just collapsing into greater and greater darkness and self-doubt.

I really believe his is the protagonist of a film in which the theme is that, unlike the Biblical statement asserts at the beginning, we really cannot separate the light from the darkness, but all are dappled with virtue & shadow.
