The banjo is horrible

I really hate the music on this show. The banjo makes no sense and I detest the yodeling at the end of each episode.

I liked it. It reminds of the music in "Raising Arizona"

reply

You are right. I love "Raising Arizona." Maybe the music was an homage to that movie. I didn't notice the music the first season, which I liked much more than the second. Perhaps it bothered me because I was disappointed in the show.

reply

have you watched the subsequent seasons? i love this show and am sorry we have reached the last season of it.

also i like the music too, or maybe i have just gotten used to it, or it forged its own positive association in my brain. it always seems to fit the absurd circumstances of marriage and our social norms.

reply

Surprisingly, I like it. It's catchy. It doesn't fit the setting but sometimes an unusual score is better than a traditional one.

If I don't reply, you're most likely on my ignore list

reply

I like it too because of the contrast. It feels kind of weird here, which is completely the point.

I like the music on this series.
The banjo keeps it moving without being too distracting.
There is a lot going on in this story, constantly, and
regular music would be distracting and not the right tempo.
It's perhaps not that I like the banjo music per se, but that
I think it fits and is appropriate to the story.
It connotes frenetic action without a lot of reflective thought,
which is what this story is about ... the catastrophe of having
to get married and having your life become about something
else other than you.
