I know right last time I checked taking care if your kids and home is not useless.

I don't think the writers really believe that "'50s housewives" were useless. Duke was probably basing her Halloween costume on old sitcoms.

again, how were they useless?

Again, that's how they might have looked on '50s sitcoms.

Because they quit work and subserviently kept house for their husbands. So goes the old cliched image which the show was knowingly using with the precocious, arrogant, yet naive and protected, teenaged daughter.

Why do you watch this show? Just to pick one dimensional holes?

That's because Pamela Adlon is giving the finger to all stay at home mothers. She believes they're all stupid, useless, and ripe for ridicule. For Adlon, there's nothing more pathetic than a woman who's life revolves around her family. Hating women is the theme of the show, after all. Haven't you noticed how awful and smug and useless all the female characters are? Of course you have, you post about it often. That's because you're smart and you pick up on the subtleties of what's going on with this show.

Good lord, what a load of made-up crap. I'm not sure why you're so thin-skinned that you're looking for offenses that aren't there. I challenge you to find any proof whatsoever that Pamela Adlon believes any of the ridiculous stuff you've offered. She was a guest on Terry Gross' Fresh Air. If you're sincerely interested in her ideas about motherhood, being a woman, etc (which I suspect you are not; you're just looking for reasons to be offended, even if they aren't there), then you should listen to that interview.

She said she was dressed as a useless 50s housewife. Mad Men was set in the 1960s but I think Betty Draper was a pretty useless housewife. She usually had servants doing stuff for her. Her costume might've been a little bit better for a useless housewife if she was wearing pearls, heels, & a really nice dress.

I am a stay at home mom/housewife and I did not find the costume or remarks the least bit insulting.

And look how thrilled Sam was - laughing, so funny, haha, stupid 50s housewives, etc. And that drab dress looked like it was out of the depression, not a 50s look at all. This show can be so obtuse in it's PC superiority.
