'Freebies'

I love this show! I've used a ton of their tips and hacks. However, I'm really disappointed with the episodes that tell viewers how to "score free" drinks or food at a restaurant. The episode I'm referencing, although there may be more, shows Brooke and Kevin going into a restaurant. She's complimentary to server versus his pretending to be a reviewer, in order to see who gets more "free" stuff. The drinks that Brooke received from the server were NOT free. Brooke didn't pay for them, and the server didn't say that she paid for them, so they were STOLEN. When people steal, it causes restaurants, clothing stores and all stores really, to raise prices that affect everyone. Not only that, you're stealing from the business owners and families and from the customers and patrons (me and YOU) who HAVE TO PAY the inflated costs to cover for other people's "freebies".
Ultimately, it's the servers poor decision. She should lose her job. It's not any different if she were to take cash out of the register.

That's not true at all. From a purely business standpoint, you would think there would be a price increase; however, I doubt restaurants check every ounce. In fact, if the manager had no idea about drinks being served for free, nothing would happen. Additionally, everything else is all ready priced up, as it is, to make up their profit margins many times over and why would you even bother going to a restaurant that suddenly increases their prices? That would be totally on you then!

You may have wanted to respond to the OP, not me.

I am so totally not wrong and common sense dictates so. What idiot actually thinks prices go up for everything if one thing is not bought? WTF?! Yeah, let's spread the wealth on that one product to other products because I need business on it. Either you grew up in a very stickler Conservative family full of greed or you just have no idea what business is. If a restaurant is that stickler for business, then it should be put out of business. Seriously.

So every refill should up the price of soft drinks right? Every peppermint candy from Burger Kings or Taco Bells that serve them as courtesy should make all the prices in that store more than every other franchise right?

Nope. Free refills keep drink prices stagnant and the fast food places where I have seen peppermints served had the EXACT same prices as Taco Bells that did without.

They would lose business if they increased prices and THAT is way more of a risk than losing a negligible amount of change on one drink. WOW!

Reffman, I love how he's trying to condone stealing and how he speaks of business practices when he clearly lacks an education, but encourages you to do so! Ha!

Arvin, free refills are include in pricing of a beverage as our mints. FREE refills and FREE mints are GIVEN by the business OWNER. You are comparing a complementary refill to blatant stealing.

Have you owned a bar or a restaurant? I have owned bar/restaurants, and yes, it's noticed when stuff is missing. Even if you're not a business owner, you may have heard of "inventory"? Right? It's when you count the items you have versus the items you sold, compared to what you purchase. We, along with other businesses COUNT EVERY OUNCE, just like every other item in stock. That's why it's called inventory. Some places have a computer system that measures and weighs bottles when it's poured.

You clearly do not have a business degree, so I won't even try to explain PLS, COS, COS, insurance, overhead and try to keep it simple. How about this? Do places have more than one employee? So if every server and bartender gave out, say, just one drink per night, there would be a loss equivalent to 2 bottles of liquor.

Again, to keep simple. Say I spend $1,000 a week on a product Whatsit, with a COS of 30% and I'm losing money by selling Whatsit because every employee (yes, most bars and restaurants have more than one!). I will have to increase the price of Whatsit or discontinue selling the product all together.

You are surely joking if you think that businesses don't raise prices. I haven't been in a while, but I guarantee that Taco Bell's tacos are no longer 59 cents! Businesses increase prices to cover loss, but also to deal with inflation. Or do you have a McDonald's by you that still sells 15 cent hamburgers? Please, share the info of all these places you go to that NEVER increase prices!

Furthermore, anyone that has to resort to calling names, like an idiot, to make their point doesn't have one. I usually wouldn't respond but clearly you're ignorant to how businesss are run. That's ok, I don't know how my car works but I certainly don't have the gall to go tell a mechanic how to run his garage, let him explain, and then tell him he's an idiot and wrong, like you have to me.

Also, by you're logic, it is ok to walk into a liquor store and grab a bottle of whiskey and walk out the door without paying. And to fill you car with gas and not pay. And to stop by the grocer and grab a few steaks. After all, it's not like the count them all right?

Go on and do that and let me know how you explain to the arresting officer that it's "not stealing". Let us know how your logic works in the real world. And in court. A person who takes something without paying is stealing, a sin, if your a religious man. A person who condones and excuses stealing is nothing but a thief.
